Jonathan Salmon, the designer, raised the wall between the laundry room and kitchen, creating an open floor plan with ample space on three walls for cabinets and appliances. He widened the entry to the dining room to improve sightlines and flow. Rebuilding a glass block exterior wall made way for rep production Windows and a focal point cooking station A custom-built island provides storage, breakfast bar seating, and surface for food prep and buffet service. The fittings finishes and fixtures are in tune with the homes 1907. architecture, including soapstone counter tops and custom painted schoolhouse lighting. It's the yellow painted shaker style cabinets that steal the show, offering a colorful take on the vintage inspired design and a welcoming setting for everyday get to gathers.. There is no shortage of color in this unfitted farmhouse kitchen. An interesting material palette including exposed dovetail joinery, marble subway tile and antique German stain glass add to the vertical visual interest throughout. The historic restoration of this First Period Ipswich, Massachusetts home (c. 1686) was an eighteen-month project that combined exterior and interior architectural work to preserve and revitalize this beautiful home. Structurally, work included restoring the summer beam, straightening the timber frame, and adding a lean-to section. The living space was expanded with the addition of a spacious gourmet kitchen featuring countertops made of reclaimed barn wood. As is always the case with our historic renovations, we took special care to maintain the beauty and integrity of the historic elements while bringing in the comfort and convenience of modern amenities. We were even able to uncover and restore much of the original fabric of the house (the chimney, fireplaces, paneling, trim, doors, hinges, etc.), which had been hidden for years under a renovation dating back to 1746. With the goal of creating larger, brighter, and more open spaces within the footprint of an existing house, BiglarKinyan reimagined the flow and proportions of existing rooms with in this house. In this kitchen space, return walls of an original U shaped kitchen were eliminated to create a long and efficient linear kitchen with island. Rear windows facing a ravine were enlarged to invite more light and views indoors. Space was borrowed from an adjacent dining and living room, which was combined and reproportioned to create a kitchen pantry and bar, larger dining room and a piano lounge.

This stunning and spacious kitchen is replete with unique hand-crafted features such as built-ins, a one-of-a-kind beverage station and custom moldings. The Shaker cabinetry with inset doors and beadboard accents provides an authentic farmhouse look and feel, while the gray, yellow and terracotta color scheme adds contrast and an element of colorful flair. The Butterfly Green granite countertops are offset by butcher block countertops, tying in with the other wood elements within the space. Stainless-steel lighting and appliances, a farmhouse sink, and pot filler are modern conveniences perfect for cooking and entertaining.

The reconditioned stove is original to the house. A retro style range hood provides modern ventilation. The curved open shelves mimic the original cabinetry design.

Stephen R. in York, PA wanted to add some light and color to his dull, outdated kitchen. We removed a soffit and added new custom DeWils cabinetry in a Jaurez Flower painted finish with glaze. A Cambria quartz countertop was installed in Linwood. A neutral tile backsplash was added to complete the look. What a bright and cheery place to spend time with family and friends! Elliot Quintin
