This small, rustic, kitchen is part of a 1200 sq ft cabin near the California coast- Hollister Ranch. There is no electricity, only wind power. We used the original wood siding inside, and washed it with a light stain to lighten the cabin. The kitchen is completely redesigned, using natural handscraped pine with a glaze coat. Stainless steel hood, skylight, and pine flooring. We used a natural sided wood beam to support the upper cabinets, with wood pegs for hanging vegetables and flowers drying. A hand made wrought iron pot rack is above the sink, in front of the window. Antique pine table, and custom made chairs. Multiple Ranch and Mountain Homes are shown in this project catalog: from Camarillo horse ranches to Lake Tahoe ski lodges. Featuring rock walls and fireplaces with decorative wrought iron doors, stained wood trusses and hand scraped beams. Rustic designs give a warm lodge feel to these large ski resort homes and cattle ranches. Pine plank or slate and stone flooring with custom old world wrought iron lighting, leather furniture and handmade, scraped wood dining tables give a warmth to the hard use of these homes, some of which are on working farms and orchards. Antique and new custom upholstery, covered in velvet with deep rich tones and hand knotted rugs in the bedrooms give a softness and warmth so comfortable and livable. In the kitchen, range hoods provide beautiful points of interest, from hammered copper, steel, and wood. The owners of this 1920's home had Baby #1 well on the way! This caused there to be an urgent need to update the kitchen and getting the project completed before the baby arrived! The client wanted to improve the layout functionality, add an island, enlarge the door openings, and add storage. A difficult task in this small 1920s kitchen. To achieve this design, mechanicals and a window were relocated. The new painted island with Boos block countertop, allowed for larger walk ways. A custom hood, marble subway tile backsplash and pot filler, create the focal point. The client’s needs were met with this beautifully detailed kitchen and two weeks before the due date! The Spacious Barn Kitchen is meant as a hangout for the whole family, and features a large Breakfast/Wine Bar. The counter tops are done in Slate Tiles with matching edge moldings for a causal touch.

Arto terra cotta floors, hand waxed, newly designed rustic open beam ceiling, plaster hood, white painted cabinetry, oak counters, and leathered ocean black granite island counter. Limestone backsplash. Light painted walls with dark wood flooring. Walls with thick plaster arches, simple and intricate tile designs, feel very natural and earthy in the warm Southern California sun. Plaster range hood and custom painted Malibu tile back splash. Stained wood beams and trusses, planked ceilings over wide planked oak floors with several shapes of hand dark waxed terra cotta tiles. This kitchen is in a small 100 year old home in the center of the historic district of town. Maximizing the use of available space and imbuing this well-used, functioning kitchen with rich detail and elegance were the two most important aspects of the project. Except for being able to borrow a small amount of space from an adjacent hallway to accommodate the depth of the refrigerator, pantry and drawers on one end wall, there was no other way to expand the footprint of the kitchen. Since we had already remodeled and upgraded the décor in most of the rest of the house and since the kitchen opened into the dining room, we wanted to create a “little jewel box” of a kitchen that was dressy enough to blend with the surrounding areas. Extensive use of Calcutta marble and a mirror-backed cabinet with glass doors provide the desired sparkle and elegance while the existing oak floor and a thick mahogany countertop visually warm the room. Custom cabinets provide the necessary storage, and we found the perfect antique rug to add color. Hand painted tiles above the stove, the custom hood, and an elegant faucet underscore the theme. “Fun” elements include the imported French stool and the portrait of the homeowner’s cats placed just above their feeding area.
