A British client requested an 'unfitted' look. Robinson Interiors was called in to help create a space that appeared built up over time, with vintage elements. For this kitchen reclaimed wood was used along with three distinctly different cabinet finishes (Stained Wood, Ivory, and Vintage Green), multiple hardware styles (Black, Bronze and Pewter) and two different backsplash tiles. We even used some freestanding furniture (A vintage French armoire) to give it that European cottage feel. A fantastic 'SubZero 48' Refrigerator, a British Racing Green Aga stove, the super cool Waterstone faucet with farmhouse sink all hep create a quirky, fun, and eclectic space! We also included a few distinctive architectural elements, like the Oculus Window Seat (part of a bump-out addition at one end of the space) and an awesome bronze compass inlaid into the newly installed hardwood floors. This bronze plaque marks a pivotal crosswalk central to the home's floor plan. Finally, the wonderful purple and green color scheme is super fun and definitely makes this kitchen feel like springtime all year round! Masterful use of Pantone's Color of the year, Ultra Violet, keeps this traditional cottage kitchen feeling fresh and updated.

The kitchen is located at one end of a peaked ceiling space that runs the length of the house. Large wood beams make a rhythm down the space, defining the kitchen, dining room and family room.

A close up of the kitchen space: Working with the homeowner in this kitchen area we designed the upper cabinets around an ideal look she envisioned for the cook-top area. We raised the cabinets to the 9' ceiling and added the smaller upper additions. We also enlarged the counter top for the island and added legs so that they could comfortably seat 4 at the island. For this project, the initial inspiration for our clients came from seeing a modern industrial design featuring barnwood and metals in our showroom. Once our clients saw this, we were commissioned to completely renovate their outdated and dysfunctional kitchen and our in-house design team came up with this new this space that incorporated old world aesthetics with modern farmhouse functions and sensibilities. Now our clients have a beautiful, one-of-a-kind kitchen which is perfecting for hosting and spending time in. Modern Farm House kitchen built in Milan Italy. old stone cottage with contemporary steel cabinets and concrete countertops. old butcher block built into steel cabinetry. This 120 year old one room stone cabin features real rock walls and fireplace in a simple rectangle with real handscraped exposed beams. Old concrete floor, from who knows when? The stainless steel kitchen is new, everything is under counter, there are no upper cabinets at all. Antique butcher block sits on stainless steel cabinet, and an old tire chain found on the old farm is the hanger for the cooking utensils. Concrete counters and sink. Designed by Maraya Interior Design for their best friend, Paul Hendershot, landscape designer.
