Family Room in a working cattle ranch with handknotted rug as a wall hanging. This rustic working walnut ranch in the mountains features natural wood beams, real stone fireplaces with wrought iron screen doors, antiques made into furniture pieces, and a tree trunk bed. All wrought iron lighting, hand scraped wood cabinets, exposed trusses and wood ceilings give this ranch house a warm, comfortable feel. The powder room shows a wrap around mosaic wainscot of local wildflowers in marble mosaics, the master bath has natural reed and heron tile, reflecting the outdoors right out the windows of this beautiful craftman type home. The kitchen is designed around a custom hand hammered copper hood, and the family room's large TV is hidden behind a roll up painting. Since this is a working farm, their is a fruit room, a small kitchen especially for cleaning the fruit, with an extra thick piece of eucalyptus for the counter top. We completely renovated this space for an episode of HGTV House Hunters Renovation. The kitchen was originally a galley kitchen. We removed a wall between the DR and the kitchen to open up the space. We used a combination of countertops in this kitchen. To give a buffer to the wood counters, we used slabs of marble each side of the sink. This adds interest visually and helps to keep the water away from the wood counters. We used blue and cream for the cabinetry which is a lovely, soft mix and wood shelving to match the wood counter tops. To complete the eclectic finishes we mixed gold light fixtures and cabinet hardware with black plumbing fixtures and shelf brackets.

This ranch was a complete renovation! We took it down to the studs and redesigned the space for this young family. We opened up the main floor to create a large kitchen with two islands and seating for a crowd and a dining nook that looks out on the beautiful front yard. We created two seating areas, one for TV viewing and one for relaxing in front of the bar area. We added a new mudroom with lots of closed storage cabinets, a pantry with a sliding barn door and a powder room for guests. We raised the ceilings by a foot and added beams for definition of the spaces. We gave the whole home a unified feel using lots of white and grey throughout with pops of orange to keep it fun.
