When this client was planning to finish his basement we knew it was going to be something special. The primary entertainment area required a “knock your socks off” performance of video and sound. To accomplish this, the 65” Panasonic Plasma TV was flanked by three Totem Acoustic Tribe in-wall speakers, two Totem Acoustic Mask in-ceiling surround speakers, a Velodyne Digital Drive 15” subwoofer and a Denon AVR-4311ci surround sound receiver to provide the horsepower to rev up the entertainment. The basement design incorporated a billiards room area and exercise room. Each of these areas needed 32” TV’s and speakers so each eare could be independently operated with access to the multiple HD cable boxes, Apple TV and Blu-Ray DVD player. Since this type of HD video & audio distribution would require a matrix switching system, we expanded the matrix output capabilities to incorporate the first floor family Room entertainments system and the Master Bedroom. Now all the A/V components for the home are centralized and showcased in one location! Not to miss a moment of the action, the client asked us to custom embedded a 19” HD TV flush in the wall just above the bathroom urinal. Now you have a full service sports bar right in your basement! Controlling the menagerie of rooms and components was simplified down to few daily use and a couple of global entertainment commands which we custom programmed into a Universal Remote MX-6000 for the basement. Additional MX-5000 remotes were used in the Basement Billiards, Exercise, family Room and Master Suite.

The family room opens onto the back patio and was decorated with the kids in mind - lots of fun color and games for the family.

Take a look at all there is to see in the Wood House great room! That fireplace is the first to instantly capture your attention (just look at that mantle!), but then you just take in each additional rustic accent and feel right in the woods.

Adding Textures We positioned the homeowner’s antique table behind the sectional for art projects and crafts. The homeowner’s rattan chairs add texture. The lamps – one with burlap shade and one with large glass base – bring in natural elements.The linen drapery panels frame the large window covered in a soft fabric shade. The antique sewing machine is the perfect size for the corner. The homeowner’s unique pottery and colorful artwork complete the vignette. Piano Nook The wall opposite the window is home for the family’s piano. We continued with our accents colors with the accessories, artwork, and textiles. The armed floor lamp is perfect for the low club chair we reupholstered in this fabulous paisley fabric. The black armoire houses toys, blankets and extra linens. The colorful artwork and small chair finish off the corner. The gray carpet with a subtle pattern is soft underfoot and the perfect backdrop for all of the pops of color dispersed through the large space. This Frankfort Home: Basement Family Room is a light airy space with pops of wonderful oranges and dark teals and proves that the basement does not have to be a dungeon or graveyard for your leftover furniture.

This mid-century modern home remodel in North Shore Glenview is complete with a multi-functional new living space. The walls that separated the family room, den and dining space were removed to create a beautiful open floor plan which includes an office niche. The newly remodeled family room has new hardwood floors and French doors which lead out to a large backyard patio. The custom upholstered armchairs and sofa are in cream colors with patterned pillows, lending to the nautical beach theme. A custom cocktail table and side tables were designed specifically for this home. The new open floor plan makes the family room visible from the entry and open to the kitchen. The backside of the fireplace has a hint to the nautical theme with white painted wood and new nickel fireplace doors.
