This Upper East Side prewar interior was specifically designed as a guest apartment for friends and family to stay for long periods of time. They wanted their guests to feel like home while staying in the city. Our criteria was that it had to be functional while remaining tailored, sophisticated and inviting. The space was rather dark so we opted for wallcoverings and paint colors that were soft, textural and exuded contrast. Our design was to completely renovate the living room, bathroom and master bedroom/sitting area. The kitchen was cosmetic with floor stain, paint, hardware and lighting. Grey, taupe, white and black were accents in the living room and created a friendly environment. This room also had to function as a guest room therefore a pullout sofa covered in a Lee Jofa linen was the perfect choice. The Bedroom has a soft palate which is extremely welcoming with touches of silver and pale grey. The hints of peacock blue and brown transform the space completely and work well with the pheasant mirror above the bed. There is also a reading nook where our star Winston occasionally takes naps when he returns from his runs in Central Park. Photo Jane Beiles

Ce projet de plus de 150 m2 est né par l'unification de deux appartements afin d'accueillir une grande famille. Le défi est alors de concevoir un lieu confortable pour les grands et les petits, un lieu de convivialité pour tous, en somme un vrai foyer chaleureux au cœur d'un des plus anciens quartiers de la ville. Le volume sous la charpente est généreusement exploité pour réaliser un espace ouvert et modulable, la zone jour. Elle est composée de trois espaces distincts tout en étant liés les uns aux autres par une grande verrière structurante réalisée en chêne. Le séjour est le lieu où se retrouve la famille, où elle accueille, en lien avec la cuisine pour la préparation des repas, mais aussi avec la salle d’étude pour surveiller les devoirs des quatre petits écoliers. This comfortable family room is cozy and inviting, immediately adjacent to the kitchen. The large doors open to the deck and outdoor seating, making the entire space functional and spacious. Our linen window treatments are blackout lined, for optimum television viewing.

We designed the layout of this home around family. The pantry room was transformed into a beautiful, peaceful home office with a cozy corner for the family dog. The living room was redesigned to accommodate the family’s playful pursuits. We designed a stylish outdoor bathroom space to avoid “inside-the-house” messes. Urban Project Management renovated the sitting room and included a custom made Murphy closet. We brought the room up to the 21st century with the latest styles.
