This picture gives you an idea how the garage, main house, and ADU are arranged on the property. Our goal was to minimize the impact to the backyard, maximize privacy of each living space from one another, maximize light for each building, etc. One way in which we were able to accomplish that was building the ADU slab on grade to keep it as low to the ground as possible and minimize it's solar footprint on the property. Cutting up the roof not only made it more interesting from the house above but also helped with solar footprint. The garage was reduced in length by about 8' to accommodate the ADU. Our client wished to expand the front porch to reach the length of the house in addition to a full exterior renovation including siding and new windows. The porch previously was limited to a small roof centered over the front door. We entirely redesigned the space to include wide stairs, a bluestone walkway and a porch with space for chairs, sofa and side tables.

This mid-century modern makeover features a streamlined front door overhang and period sconces. The river pebble and concrete stepping stones complete the mid-century aesthetic. Nu Interiors, Ale Wood & Design construction and In House Photography.

This Post-War home in Englewood's Arapahoe Acres neighborhood was in need of an update. While not of the mid-century modern style some of the neighboring homes were built with, this home was bursting with potential. Check out how much charm the finished product has. We installed James Hardie siding and trim. We used James Hardie's ColorPlus factory finish color Boothbay Blue for the siding and Arctic White for the trim. The bright yellow door was a custom color from Sherwin-Williams, picked to match the mid-century patio furniture that came with the house, and we think it's the bow on top.

You can see how the ADU fits in nicely behind the main house and garage. The garage had to be shortened a bit too fit the ADU behind it with proper clearances. The outdoor living room connects the house to the exterior areas of the home. Semi open, the room provides shelter from the western sun and elements, whilst capturing the breeze and light, and providing opportunities for looking outward.
