This mudroom was designed to fit the lifestyle of a busy family of four. Originally, there was just a long, narrow corridor that served as the mudroom. A bathroom and laundry room were re-located to create a mudroom wide enough for custom built-in storage on both sides of the corridor. To one side, there is eleven feel of shelves for shoes. On the other side of the corridor, there is a combination of both open and closed, multipurpose built-in storage. A tall cabinet provides space for sporting equipment. There are four cubbies, giving each family member a place to hang their coats, with a bench below that provide a place to sit and remove your shoes. A compact entryway in downtown Brooklyn was in need of some love (and storage!). A geometric wallpaper was added to one wall to bring in some zing, with wooden coat hooks of multiple sizes at adult and kid levels. A small console table allows for additional storage within the space, and a stool provides a place to sit and change shoes.

This cottage style mudroom in all white gives ample storage just as you walk in the door. It includes a counter to drop off groceries, a bench with shoe storage below, and multiple large coat hooks for hats, jackets, and handbags. The design also includes deep cabinets to store those unsightly bulk items.

When the family comes in from the garage they enter into this great entry space. This space has it all! Equipped with storage for coats, hats, bags, shoes, etc. as well as a desk for family bills and drop-zone, and access directly to the laundry room and the kitchen, this space is really a main hub when entering the home. Double barn doors hide the laundry room from view while still allowing for complete access. The dark hooks on the mud-bench play off the dark barn door hardware and provide a beautiful contrast against the blue painted bench and breadboard backing. A dark stained desk, which coordinates beautifully with the barn doors, helps complete the space.

Keeping track of all the coats, shoes, backpacks and specialty gear for several small children can be an organizational challenge all by itself. Combine that with busy schedules and various activities like ballet lessons, little league, art classes, swim team, soccer and music, and the benefits of a great mud room organization system like this one becomes invaluable. Rather than an enclosed closet, separate cubbies for each family member ensures that everyone has a place to store their coats and backpacks. The look is neat and tidy, but easier than a traditional closet with doors, making it more likely to be used by everyone — including children. Hooks rather than hangers are easier for children and help prevent jackets from being to left on the floor. A shoe shelf beneath each cubby keeps all the footwear in order so that no one ever ends up searching for a missing shoe when they're in a hurry. a drawer above the shoe shelf keeps mittens, gloves and small items handy. A shelf with basket above each coat cubby is great for keys, wallets and small items that might otherwise become lost. The cabinets above hold gear that is out-of-season or infrequently used. An additional shoe cupboard that spans from floor to ceiling offers a place to keep boots and extra shoes. White shaker style cabinet doors with oil rubbed bronze hardware presents a simple, clean appearance to organize the clutter, while bead board panels at the back of the coat cubbies adds a casual, country charm. Mudroom Cabinets were custom designed by Jessica McAllister of Kountry Kraft for a transitional style entryway in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania. The cabinets are crafted in Penn Line style out of Red Oak wood and finished in Gray Wolf 25° stain color. Across the top and bottom of the cabinets are storage units for hats, gloves and shoes. Antique pewter hooks from Top Knobs provide the perfect place to hang coats and bags. This mudroom cabinet system also includes a bench for sitting while putting on your shoes. Mudroom cabinets help keep clutter the kitchen and living areas clean because they create a dedicated space for the items that are typically taken off and put on when entering or exiting the house.

The homeowners designed the cabinetry in the new Mudroom complete with decorative wire to hide doggie crates, a secret entrance to the litter box, a bench for putting on shoes, and a chalkboard for reminders. The brick flooring makes it feel like the space has been here forever. The lantern pendant is a welcoming touch. We added a cushion on the bench to bring in the orange color, and the leaf artwork on the wall ties that color to the wall color which is Sherwin Williams’ Comfort Gray (SW6205).
