The heart of the project was the remodel of the kitchen which saw the biggest change. We removed 3 walls to create an open floor plan so we could fit a 7' island and the new dining area. We decided to mix blue and white shaker cabinets together with a boho backsplash.

Comfortable, beautiful, and functional – this renovation reflects a great collaboration between the owners, interior designer, and our architectural designer. This family wanted to reconfigure their first floor to create a layout that suited their lifestyle. They were working with an interior designer but found they needed a full-service firm that could properly address some structural issues. Relocating the kitchen along the entire back of the house allowed for an expanded kitchen with a large island that has seating. To open the kitchen to the deck, we removed the standard sliding door and two windows, installed a header to support a larger opening, and introduced new sliding doors that are almost 12-feet wide and 7-feet high. The clients worked with the interior designer to select a beautiful blue-gray color for perimeter the cabinets. There is a pantry cabinet to the left of the fridge, and on the right is an appliance garage on the counter with a door that flips up and back. Below the appliance garage is an extra deep pull-out drawer for additional small appliances. A quartz countertop, farm sink, and cement accent tile at the range complete the look. Wall ovens on the other side of the island. The new taller and wider sliding glass door system provides a welcome connection to the deck.

4-door sliding door pantry allows for maximum opening into pantry. Kitchen, family room and dining room create an open great room space. Countertops are Dekton. Wood top is from Grothouse, Oak wood with Driftwood finish. Cabinets are from Design Studio West and Sollera Fine Cabinets. Painted cabinet are finished in Dunn Edwards, "Dark Lagoon", DEC788. floating shelves and tiled accents leave hobby chefs with nothing to be desired. this clean concept allows for easy tidying and organizing, without appearing sterile. a warm and inviting space which fits the style of this urban cottage perfectly.

A fantastic Persian rug from Blue Parakeet Rugs brings the whole color scheme together. Vintage touches include the Wedgewood stove, the pendant light over the sink, the red bakelite clock, the vintage footstool ( a Rose Bowl find) and my collection of early California Pottery.

We removed half the full wall between the Living Room and Kitchen, and built an arched opening to make the space seem like it had always been there. The opening brought in light, and allowed us to add an island, which greatly increased our storage space and functionality in the kitchen.

These vintage window sashes replaced the early 60's garden window that would never have been in a 1920's house! Farmhouse sink and Bridge faucet from Vintage Tub & Bath.

Vintage Tub & Bath supplied the farmhouse sink and brass bridge faucet. The window was recreated from vintage sashes found at Pasadena Architectural Salvage, which also supplied the brass cabinet hardware. Cabinets by Fernando's Building Materials in Cypress Park area of Los Angeles. Custom stain finish in Charcoal Blue.
