Clean and simple kitchen with grain matched cabinets. The clients wanted a modern farmhouse look with all the modern functioning extras. We began with the layout which includes panels on the d.w. and fridge, a full trash pull out and swing out in the blind corner. We then went on to design the curved walnut legs on the island, and the custom lay out of the plate rack. The floating shelves with bar for hooks for mugs filled out the function part of the design. Next we found a type of wood that was warm and brown but not too yellow or red. The matching grain of the rift sawn white oak was the choice. The legs on the island are oak which match the stools. The countertops and subway tile and hardware rounded out the choices.

Designed by Anne De Wolf this eclectic vintage kitchen features a vintage range, custom walnut lower cabinets designed to match existing historic upper cabinets, custom rolling butcher block islands and a small corner eating nook.

We took a dated 1960's bungalow and turned it into a space filled with the love, light and character that truly reflects the family living here. Lots of colour and special touches to make it their own!

This marvelous kitchen was a true challenge for space planning. The house was built in 1927. The original kitchen held the laundry, stove, a small icebox and an even smaller pantry. I created a comfortable peninsula for mingling while food is prepared. The William and Morris wallpaper on the ceiling was added to tie into the original wallpaper which is in the Butler's pantry next to the kitchen. Hand made tiles are used on the backsplash. A Spanish accent tile is used on the front of the peninsula. The Deckton countertop is more contemporary, being a lot thinner, and absolutely indestructible. The edge profile was intentionally thought out. I wanted it to look like the profile of a carved lion on an antique furniture piece. The beams were added to the ceiling and were also custom-created. I had the builder, Finish Point Cabinetry, channel the wood in the beam so that we could place LED lighting within them.

Condos are often a challenge – can’t move water, venting has to remain connected to existing ducting and recessed cans may not be an option. In this project, we had an added challenge – we could not lower the ceiling on the exterior wall due to a continual leak issue that the HOA has put off due to the multi-million-dollar expense. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Work Centers: prep, baking, clean up, message, beverage and entertaining. Vignette Design: avoid wall to wall cabinets, enhance the work center philosophy Geometry: create a more exciting and natural flow ANGLES: the baking center features a Miele wall oven and Liebherr Freezer, the countertop is 36” deep (allowing for an extra deep appliance garage with stainless tambour). CURVES: the island, desk and ceiling is curved to create a more natural flow. A raised drink counter in Sapele allows for “bellying up to the bar” CIRCLES: the 60” table (seating for 6) is supported by a steel plate and a custom column (used also to support the end of the curved desk – not shown) ISLAND CHALLENGE: To install recessed cans and connect to the existing ducting – we dropped the ceiling 6”. The dropped ceiling curves at the end of the island to the existing ceiling height at the pantry/desk area of the kitchen. An eclectic kitchen that packs a punch, of color! This space is full of character and the tile proves it. The tile was the inspiration for the kitchen remodel. We worked within the existing space and made a bright and functional kitchen for the family to enjoy. Photos by Nadine Harris.
