This Paradise Valley stunner was a down-to-the-studs renovation. The owner, a successful business woman and owner of Bungalow Scottsdale -- a fabulous furnishings store, had a very clear vision. DW's mission was to re-imagine the 1970's solid block home into a modern and open place for a family of three. The house initially was very compartmentalized including lots of small rooms and too many doors to count. With a mantra of simplify, simplify, simplify, Architect CP Drewett began to look for the hidden order to craft a space that lived well. This residence is a Moroccan world of white topped with classic Morrish patterning and finished with the owner's fabulous taste. The kitchen was established as the home's center to facilitate the owner's heart and swagger for entertaining. The public spaces were reimagined with a focus on hospitality. Practicing great restraint with the architecture set the stage for the owner to showcase objects in space. Her fantastic collection includes a glass-top faux elephant tusk table from the set of the infamous 80's television series, Dallas. The tapered staircase is formed of laminated oak and was supplied and installed by SMET, a Belgian company. It matches the parquet flooring, and sits elegantly in the space by the sliding doors. Structural glass balustrades help maintain just the right balance of solidity, practicality and lightness of touch and allow the proportions of the rooms and front-to-rear views to dominate. Based on other life priorities, not all of our work with clients happens at once. When we first met, we pulled up their carpet and installed hardy laminate flooring, along with new baseboards, interior doors and painting. A year later we cosmetically remodeled the kitchen installing new countertops, painting the cabinets and installing new fittings, hardware and a backsplash. Then a few years later the big game changer for the interior came when we updated their furnishings in the living room and family room, and remodeled their living room fireplace. What struck us strange about this property was that it was a beautiful period piece but with the darkest and smallest kitchen considering it's size and potential. We had a quite a few constrictions on the extension but in the end we managed to provide a large bright kitchen/dinning area with direct access to a beautiful garden and keeping the 'new ' in harmony with the existing building.
