Collector's Paradise | Estancia - Dining

Designed to embrace an extensive and unique art collection including sculpture, paintings, tapestry, and cultural antiquities, this modernist home located in north Scottsdale’s Estancia is the quintessential gallery home for the spectacular collection within. The primary roof form, “the wing” as the owner enjoys referring to it, opens the home vertically to a view of adjacent Pinnacle peak and changes the aperture to horizontal for the opposing view to the golf course. Deep overhangs and fenestration recesses give the home protection from the elements and provide supporting shade and shadow for what proves to be a desert sculpture. The restrained palette allows the architecture to express itself while permitting each object in the home to make its own place. The home, while certainly modern, expresses both elegance and warmth in its material selections including canterra stone, chopped sandstone, copper, and stucco. Love the contrast between first and second floor, both in material and volume. Excellent modern composition.” This Gatineau Hills home creates a beautiful balance between modern and natural. The natural house design embraces its earthy surroundings, while opening the door to a contemporary aesthetic. The open ground floor, with its interconnected spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows, allows sunlight to flow through uninterrupted, showcasing the beauty of the natural light as it varies throughout the day and by season. The façade of reclaimed wood on the upper level, white cement board lining the lower, and large expanses of floor-to-ceiling windows throughout are the perfect package for this chic forest home. A warm wood ceiling overhead and rustic hand-scraped wood floor underfoot wrap you in nature’s best. Marvin’s floor-to-ceiling windows invite in the ever-changing landscape of trees and mountains indoors. From the exterior, the vertical windows lead the eye upward, loosely echoing the vertical lines of the surrounding trees. The large windows and minimal frames effectively framed unique views of the beautiful Gatineau Hills without distracting from them. Further, the windows on the second floor, where the bedrooms are located, are tinted for added privacy. Marvin’s selection of window frame colors further defined this home’s contrasting exterior palette. White window frames were used for the ground floor and black for the second floor. The reclaimed wood hood draws attention in this large farmhouse kitchen. A pair of reclaimed doors were fitted with antique mirror and were repurposed as pantry doors. Brass lights and hardware add elegance. The island is painted a contrasting gray and is surrounded by rope counter stools. The ceiling is clad in pine tounge- in -groove boards to create a rich rustic feeling. In the coffee bar the brick from the family room bar repeats, to created a flow between all the spaces.

巨大なLDKの写真

LDKは家族がそろって向き合うスペース。食卓を囲んで会話がはずめば、食事もいっそうおいしく感じられることでしょう。日本の家庭では、リビングダイニングとしてまとめられている間取りも多いですが、食事をいただく場所ですので、いつも片付いていて清潔に保たれているようにしたいですね。特に、朝食・ランチ・ディナーすべてをLDKでとるという方は、いっそうインテリアに力を入れたい場所です。LDKの多くがキッチンの隣に設置されている場合、デザインに統一感を持たせると空間がすっきりとした印象になります。

LDKのインテリアは“シンプル”が正解

LDKの主役は、ダイニングテーブルに乗る食事です。食事をおいしく食べる場所という役割が明確なLDKのインテリアは実に悩ましいところです。例えば、レストランではフレンチ、イタリアン、和食、中華とジャンルごとにインテリアも食事に合わせてコーディネートしますが、一般の家庭では今日はイタリアン、今日は和食、とそのときどきによってメニューが変わるのでそうはいきません。なので、どんなものにも合わせやすい、シンプルめなLDKインテリアで統一するのが正解。その代わり、ランチョンマットを食事によって変えたり、テーブルに季節の花などを飾ったりして、その料理を引き立たせ、かつ、LDKルームにアクセントを与えましょう。

LDKの照明の選び方

LDKでは照明も重要なポイント。食材をおいしそうに見せ、家族の“おいしい”顔をはっきり映す照明の選び方を知りましょう。LDKの照明は、発色をきれいに見せてくれる白熱球がおすすすめです。LDKは照明の使用時間も長いので、導入費用はかかれど寿命が長いLEDのタイプが人気です。特に、食欲をかき立てる“赤色”が鮮やかに見えます。また、陰影がはっきりするので立体感が出て、お料理をいっそう美しく、おいしそうに見せます。さらに、LDKにペンダントライトを設置する際には、その高さもポイント。高すぎるとまぶしさを感じ、低すぎるとテーブルの端まで光が当たらず、影ができてしまい、せっかくの料理も引き立ちません。シェード（傘）とテーブルまでの距離は、60〜80cm程度はなれているのが理想です。また、バランスのよいシェードの大きさ（直径）はテーブルのサイズの1/3程度とされています。LDKの照明は、実際に設置やシミュレーションをしてみないと、明るさや光の届く範囲がなかなか想定できません。LDKの広さや間取り、自然光の入る窓の位置などを把握したうえで、照明の専門家に相談するのがおすすめです。
