In the dining room we added grey nickel gap planking installed vertically for that coastal-feel. We did the recess for the "label forward" wine storage over a grey mosaic herringbone tiled back wall. The "cork screw" chandelier was the star of the room. Steve Buchanan Photography

Rustic yet refined, this modern country retreat blends old and new in masterful ways, creating a fresh yet timeless experience. The structured, austere exterior gives way to an inviting interior. The palette of subdued greens, sunny yellows, and watery blues draws inspiration from nature. Whether in the upholstery or on the walls, trailing blooms lend a note of softness throughout. The dark teal kitchen receives an injection of light from a thoughtfully-appointed skylight; a dining room with vaulted ceilings and bead board walls add a rustic feel. The wall treatment continues through the main floor to the living room, highlighted by a large and inviting limestone fireplace that gives the relaxed room a note of grandeur. Turquoise subway tiles elevate the laundry room from utilitarian to charming. Flanked by large windows, the home is abound with natural vistas. Antlers, antique framed mirrors and plaid trim accentuates the high ceilings. Hand scraped wood flooring from Schotten & Hansen line the wide corridors and provide the ideal space for lounging.

The dining room in this tiny Maplewood, Missouri cottage is charming, eclectic, and a little bit funky. From the bamboo chairs with seats upholstered in a vintage tablecloth, to the perfectly aged Asian screens to the whimsical ceiling fixture, this is not cookie-cutter decor. Every element in the space let's you know the person who lives here is singular, creative, and fearless in her design choices.

The details make the space: a modern Gothic railing, wide casing on openings and windows, a divided lite transom, a tray ceiling. Subtle pattern and repetition add interest and keep the eye moving.

This 1960s split-level has a new Family Room addition in front of the existing home, with a total gut remodel of the existing Kitchen/Living/Dining spaces. The spacious Kitchen boasts a generous curved stone-clad island and plenty of custom cabinetry. The Kitchen opens to a large eat-in Dining Room, with a walk-around stone double-sided fireplace between Dining and the new Family room. The homeowners opted for mis-matched chairs at the dining table, which offers a cozy contrast to the potential formality of the chandelier and wallpaper. Round tables make for great conversation and allow a few extra chairs to squeeze in to accommodate a larger group. The wallpaper was custom-made to complement the Murano glass chandelier.
