APLD 2021 Silver Award Winning Landscape Design. An expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. With an existing pool and retaining walls, we took this space and made it more modern offering many various spaces for lounging, enjoying the fire, listening to the water feature and an upper synthetic turf area for playing games. It is complete with bluestone pavers, a modern water feature and reflecting pool, a raised ipe deck, synthetic turf, glass railings, a modern, gas fire bowl and a stunning cedar privacy wall!

A contemporary front garden was created from this previously run down front garden following moderisation of the 3 storey town house. The garden includes a newly created driveway for up to 2 cars which is fully permeable to prevent water runoff with a continual path to one side leading to the front door. The path is flanked with new sun loving planting with a water bowl near the front door bring wildlife into the garden. The path is illuminate at night by low level bollard lighting and the whole palette of materials is limited to granite for a contemporary and refined look.

A tight outdoor space was transformed into a natural backyard oasis. The multi-tiered deck leads onto a natural flagstone pathway with paver edging. The path opens into a circular fire pit tucked into the edge of the garden, enclosed with purple-leafed redbud trees and anchored with a mature fig tree. Dry stacked stone creates the curved bench, which also retains the elevated garden bed that wraps the fire circle. The natural cedar fence encloses the space and the custom gate becomes a garden feature of its own with a stained glass window.

As part of this Replacement Dwelling Development, this area between the two large Oak Framed Buildings has been created to form a focal feature in between both buildings. A once totally over grown shaded area due to 20 Leylandi trees being in this part of the Developments Curtilage, this now lovely sunny area has been carefully landscaped with a wonderful dry stone curved wall, with Oak cleft gates and Oak raised beds with Box Ball 'Cloud' Planting. Recalimed York Stone Flags and Setts have also been used and allowing the Oak of the buildings and raised beds to naturally 'silver' will go onto compliment the beautiful 200 year old stone. The Dry Stone wall is soon to be capped off with bull nosed stone coping stones. Pretty Pink structural Tulips have been planted for Spring Colour and pretty feathery Cosmos has been planted for Summer Planting. The Box Balls remain a constant structural planting element all year round and look stunning when frost covered. John Cullen low level Lighting in the raised beds and walk way allow these raised beds to look stunning in the evening.
