This remodel was for a family that wanted a contemporary style kitchen with a mix of modern and traditional elements. To bring in the traditional, we installed hardwood flooring in grey and brown tones and Shaker style cabinets but updated them in a grey-brown color for the perimeter and a navy blue for the island. The cabinet hardware is a bronze color with a modern design-bar pulls instead of knobs for all cabinets and drawers. To emulate the color of the cabinet hardware, the island pendants are a bronze wire fixture in addition to the bronze brackets holding up the wine rack display. The countertops are a marble design quartz and the appliances are stainless steel. The backsplash on the stove wall is a contemporary linen-like tile installed in a chevron design and the coffee bar area is also a linen-like tile but in an abstract design. There is a walnut shelf above the quartz countertops to bring in some warmth and rustic elements to the area. For a more contemporary feel, we left the HVAC exposed but painted it white as well as the traditional wooden beams. The couple had a vision to extend the property to create a very spacious split level open plan living, kitchen, dining space, with the kitchen on the upper level with a contemporary style clear glass divide between the kitchen and the lower living dining area, with large patio doors out into the garden. Even though the kitchen is on the upper level and is the first part you enter from the spacious hallway, the ceiling height is very generous, adding to the feeling of light and space. At the Eastward Remodel Studio Home assisted the client in designing a contemporary kitchen that was open concept for entertaining. The contractor made the design come to life by demolishing the nicotine stained walls, hunter green carpet, and old nonfunctional cabinetry. Studio Home provided new Medallion custom cabinetry in the Onyx stain, as well as Pental Quartz countertops, and Floorte luxury vinyl plank floors. This transformation is stunning.

The flooring was replaced throughout the entire house, along with new 6" contemporary baseboards. The ceiling fan within the living room was changed out to a black matte finish with extra long blades for more air movement and to coincide with the other ceiling fixtures. A fresh coat of paint was provided throughout in a lighter shade than was existing to allow a brighter feel to the entire space.

Rhona and David Randall’s 1986 home near Basingstoke, North Hampshire originally had a kitchen with a separate utility room attached, which meant that their kitchen space was somewhat limited to being a functional kitchen and not the kitchen, dining, living space that they could use to entertain friends and family in. It was important to then create a new utility space for the family within the newly enlarged kitchen dining room, and Rhona commented: “Mark then designed in a Utility/Laundry Cupboard that is now hidden away behind bi-fold doors and is a much better use of space and now has our washing machine, tumble dryer and water softener. It was also his idea to take off the kitchen door leading into the hallway, which now gives a better flow to the room. Mark then designed in another bi-fold door to hide away the big fridge freezer and to use part of that area for coats.”
