"This beautiful design started with a clean open slate and lots of design opportunities. The homeowner was looking for a large oversized spacious kitchen designed for easy meal prep for multiple cooks and room for entertaining a large oversized family. The architect’s plans had a single island with large windows on both main walls. The one window overlooked the unattractive side of a neighbor’s house while the other was not large enough to see the beautiful large back yard. The kitchen entry location made the mudroom extremely small and left only a few design options for the kitchen layout. The almost 14’ high ceilings also gave lots of opportunities for a unique design, but care had to be taken to still make the space feel warm and cozy. After drawing four design options, one was chosen that relocated the entry from the mudroom, making the mudroom a lot more accessible. A prep island across from the range and an entertaining island were included. The entertaining island included a beverage refrigerator for guests to congregate around and to help them stay out of the kitchen work areas. The small island appeared to be floating on legs and incorporates a sink and single dishwasher drawer for easy clean up of pots and pans. When this family approached Gayler Design Build, they had a unique, octagon-shaped room that lacked flow and modern amenities. The home initially was constructed from three small houses that were "joined" together to create this unusual shape. It was important for the family to keep the open floor plan but add more functional space, to include new cabinetry and a large center island. In order to build the open floor plan, Gayler Design Build had to design around a central post and refinish the octagon concrete flooring, which was cut to reconfigure items in space and access sewer lines, etc.

In a successful small kitchen, every element must pull its weight. We installed new cabinets from floor to ceiling, fitting a combination of shelves, deep drawers and custom pullouts, making every cabinet usable. Stealing the show is tile above the cooktop, it provides a visual drawing card with its textural beauty and a creative layout. Convenient can lighting, modern stainless-steel appliances and a new glass laundry door bring in lots of natural light for this stunning petite kitchen.

White cabinetry and gray tile brightened up this Vancouver, Wash., kitchen. Previously, darker cabinetry, an enclosed layout and ceiling soffits made the space feel smaller. Zuver Construction expanded the kitchen by bumping a kitchen wall out three feet into the dining room. We performed a major overhaul of this kitchen without changing its foot print. Appliances were moved to create more functionality, Lighter finishes were chosen for the perimeter cabinets to compliment the adjacent great room while bringing light and life into the previously dark space. A small window was expanded to better connect the kitchen to the beautiful garden beyond. The island was expanded to increase counter space and enhance entertaining!

Richard & Caroline's kitchen was one of the biggest spaces we've had the pleasure of working on, yet this vast space has a very homely and welcoming feeling. Texture has played a huge part in this design, with a mixture of materials all working in harmony and adding interest. This property could be classed as a modern farmhouse, and the interior reflects this mix of traditional and modern. It's home to a young family, and we're loving Caroline's playful use of colour and accessories! As well as the meticulously designed kitchen, we created a modern storage area at the dining end to pull the two spaces together.

This project was designed by our in-house design team and included a kitchen remodel (cabinets, countertops, tile backsplash, appliances, flooring, T&G accents, LED lighting, trim and paint), new flooring throughout the main level, new trim/casing throughout the main level, and painting of the entire main level. By designing everything up front with our in-house design team in Chief Architect we were able to update what was an outdated floor plan in a 1920's craftsman home in Portland, OR. Our design team opened up walls creating much better flow throughout the main level, added tons of new storage options with our new custom cabinets, updated all of the appliances, and brightened the space with new interior paint and flooring. Another fantastic transformation and we can't thank our client enough for allowing us to be part of it.

Bespoke Handleless Shaker kitchen with the main runs painted in Little Greene 'French Grey Dark' (163). The Silestone Yukon worktops are 30mm thick and one end of the island is curved. The black AGA is a 3-oven dual control model.
