What comes to mind when you envision the perfect multi-faceted living spaces? Is it an expansive amount of counter space at which to cook, work, or entertain freely? Abundant and practical cabinet organization to keep clutter at bay and the space looking beautiful? Or perhaps the answer is all of the above, along with a cosy spot to retreat after the long day is complete. The project we are sharing with you here has each of these elements in spades: spaces that combine beauty with function, promote comfort and relaxation, and make time at home enjoyable for this active family of three. Our main focus was to remodel the kitchen, where we hoped to create a functional layout for everyday use. Our clients also hoped to incorporate a home office right into the kitchen itself. However, the clients realized that renovation the kitchen alone wouldn’t create the full transformation they were looking for. Kitchens interact intimately with their adjacent spaces, especially family rooms, and we were determined to elevate their daily living experience from top to bottom. We redesigned the kitchen and living area to increase work surfaces and storage solutions, create comfortable and luxurious spaces to unwind, and update the overall aesthetic to fit their more modern, collected taste. Here’s how it turned out…

Architect: Wade Davis Design Photo Credit: Jim Bartsch Photography Originally the hope was to open up the wall between the kitchen and dining room but, because this was a structural wall, it would have impacted the unit on the first floor below by forcing the owners into an unwanted construction project of their own. With this in mind, the next best option was to open up the non-structural wall between the kitchen and living room. To allow the owner to separate these two spaces as needed, a custom made, white oak pocket door (with frosted glass) and bi-fold doors over the wet bar were installed.

Practical kitchen remodel on a modest budget in a small space. New skylights flood the room with light. Simple materials give the kitchen its character. Opening the back of the original dining room hutch in this 1900’s Colonial bungalow makes a visual connection to the kitchen, while preserving the classic details of the old house. Главной задачей на кухне было создание как можно большего количества мест хранение и максимально возможное рабочее пространство между мойкой и варочной панелью. Также было высказано пожелание сделать шкаф с ящиками (80см для хранения кухонной утвари, что было реализованно под варочной панелью. Такая планоровка позволила воплотить все пожелания, а также сделать вместительную независимую столовую зону: стол, при необходимости, можно развернуть и устроить застолье, что также не будет мешать свободому проходу с гостиной. В отделки стен за основу взят белый цвет, тк кухня находится почти в 8 метрах от окна и естественного освещения будет недостаточно. От плитки для отделки пола решено было отказаться, поэтому у кухонного гарнитура пол отделан плитекой Bestile Toscana Negro.

A gorgeous loft with exquisite rustic elements. These clients were looking to update their kitchen to complement the home’s rustic design, so we emphasized the feel of the space by using distressed finish wide plank wood flooring, which runs at an angle to the cabinet walls, creating a wonderful contrast. We added some contemporary elements including flat panel cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and a white quartz countertop, which we feel gives this space a clean, refined look. And last but not least, the glass subway tile. Designed by Chi Renovation & Design who also serve the Chicagoland area and it's surrounding suburbs, with an emphasis on the North Side and North Shore. You'll find their work from the Loop through Humboldt Park, Lincoln Park, Skokie, Evanston, Wilmette, and all of the way up to Lake Forest.
