A one-wall kitchen is basic in design, but that doesn’t mean it has to be one-dimensional. This contemporary kitchen makes a dramatic statement with a distinct stratum of texture and color that lends depth and visual interest to the space. Ann Sacks® tiles in two similar tones form the backsplash. A few of the tiles extend from wall-mounted shelves, making it hard to tell at a glance where the shelves begin and end. Other tiles form a perfect row with the 1-1/2-inch-thick horizontal canopy of the Monogram® stainless steel chimney hood. Intriguing linear effects can also be seen on the Bentwood® custom cabinets, which have been painted and sanded multiple times to achieve a weathered effect. Fabrique™ floor tiles from Daltile® have a textured appearance that’s in striking contrast with the cabinets, which are punctuated by simple chrome knobs. A 3form® light fixture, a large yet airy and light piece comprised of overlapping ribbons of resin, provides an artful focal point in the one-wall kitchen. The light installation, along with the flooring and white ceiling, brings softness to the kitchen’s overall linearity.

Quand un photographe vient shooter la cuisine de Mme C, je suis obligé de partager avec vous son travail. Les photos sont vraiment superbes ! Ces nouveaux luminaires sont tout simplement parfaits. Ils donnent encore plus de cachet à la pièce. Maintenant que Mme C s’est appropriée sa nouvelle cuisine en y intégrant ses objets personnels, je la trouve encore plus accueillante et chaleureuse. Comme quoi, il y a encore une différence à prendre en compte lorsque vous regardez une cuisine fraîchement installée et une cuisine aménagée.

Situé au 4ème et 5ème étage, ce beau duplex est mis en valeur par sa luminosité. En contraste aux murs blancs, le parquet hausmannien en pointe de Hongrie a été repeint en noir, ce qui lui apporte une touche moderne. Dans le salon / cuisine ouverte, la grande bibliothèque d’angle a été dessinée et conçue sur mesure en bois de palissandre, et sert également de bureau. La banquette également dessinée sur mesure apporte un côté cosy et très chic avec ses pieds en laiton. La cuisine sans poignée, sur fond bleu canard, a un plan de travail en granit avec des touches de cuivre. A l’étage, le bureau accueille un grand plan de travail en chêne massif, avec de grandes étagères peintes en vert anglais. La chambre parentale, très douce, est restée dans les tons blancs.

La superbe cuisine, qui fut très compliquée à réaliser. Beaucoup d'ajustements et de sur-mesure à cause de ce mur en pente que nous ne pouvions pas toucher. This project began with the request to update the existing kitchen of this eclectic waterfront home on Puget Sound. The remodel entailed relocating the kitchen from the front of the house where it was limiting the window space to the back of the house overlooking the family room and dining room. We opened up the kitchen with sliding window walls to create a natural connection to the exterior. The bold colors were the owner’s vision, and they wanted the space to be fun and inviting. From the reclaimed barn wood floors to the recycled glass countertops to the Teppanyaki grill on the island and the custom stainless steel cloud hood suspended from the barrel vault ceiling, virtually everything was centered on entertaining.

The kitchen includes a view to the front porch through an interior window - one of a series of millwork boxes fashioned from 100 year old river reclaimed cypress with a hand rubbed oil finish. The glass backsplash provides a reflected view of the backyard BBQ and dining deck beyond. The high iron content in the glass produces that vibrant "swimming pool blue" accent in a brightly lit space of mostly white & natural wood. ©2014 felix day pretsch
