Exterior of this new modern home is designed with fibercement panel siding with a rainscreen. The front porch has a large overhang to protect guests from the weather. A rain chain detail was added for the rainwater runoff from the porch. A Vancouver new build pops in a neighborhood full of post-war homes. This custom home was designed in a modern esthetic to reflect a young couple’s happening lifestyle. The working duo plan to start a family so will have little time for home maintenance. At the top of their list of wants were durable, quality materials that perform. Clad in James Hardie with cedar accents, a metal roof and fibreglass powder coating windows this home is set for exceptional longevity.

One of our most remarkable transformations, this remains a stunning property in a very prominent location on the street scene. The house previously was very dated but with a large footprint to work with. The footprint was extended again by about 50%, in order to accommodate effectively two families. Our client was willing to take a risk and go for a contemporary design that pushed the boundaries of what many others would feel comfortable with. We were able to explore materials, glazing and the overall form of the proposal to such an extent that the cladding manufacturers even used this project as a case study. The proposal contains a cinema room, dedicated playroom and a vast living space leading to the orangery. The children’s bedrooms were all customised by way of hand-painted murals in individual themes.

The original ranch had small concrete stoops and zero cover from the elements. We designed a front and back porch with design and function in mind.

The western exterior of the home is comprised of high durability and low maintenance materials including concrete fiberboard by James Hardie siding, Kolbe windows and doors and Azek composite decking. There are two seating/dining areas, one under cover and one in the open. The built-in bench on the far right of the photo is comprised of Azek and cedar planks stained to match the color of the house. The deck provides a seamless transition from the house to the pool and yard. Recessed can lights and sconces ensure the party does not have to stop when the sun goes down.

This project involved replacing all the existing cedar siding on this early 1970's contemporary with new Hardie Custom Colonial siding. Due to the atypical installation angle we installed house wrap with a rain screen over osb sheathing. We also repainting the entire house and shed with Sherwin Williams Latitude paint.
