A black walnut dining table, suspended on a steel cantilever base, which is mounted directly into the cement floor. We'd like to thank Yumi Kagamihara, interior designer, who invited us to collaborate on this stunning home project. Slab Art Studios designed the walnut table top; the homeowner designed the base. We're delighted to see the final piece in its beautiful home setting. This black walnut slab holds a more organic statement than most. Unlike most dining-table slabs, we did not flatten it completely to accommodate traditional dining. Rather, we left some of the subtle curves and undulations garnered from three years of air- and kiln-drying. Fu-Tung Cheng, CHENG Design • Dining Space featuring Custom Wood + Paper Light Fixture, House 6 Concrete and Wood Home House 6, is Cheng Design’s sixth custom home project, was redesigned and constructed from top-to-bottom. The project represents a major career milestone thanks to the unique and innovative use of concrete, as this residence is one of Cheng Design’s first-ever ‘hybrid’ structures, constructed as a combination of wood and concrete. Working with Llama Architects & Llama Group on the total renovation of this once dated cottage set in a wonderful location. Creating for our clients within this project a stylish contemporary dining area with skyframe frameless sliding doors, allowing for wonderful indoor - outdoor luxuryliving. With a beautifully bespoke dining table & stylish Piet Boon Dining Chairs, Ochre Seed Cloud chandelier and built in leather booth seating. This new addition completed this new Kitchen Area, with wall to wall Skyframe that maximised the views to the extensive gardens, and when opened, had no supports / structures to hinder the view, so that the whole corner of the room was completely open to the bri solet, so that in the summer months you can dine inside or out with no apparent divide. This was achieved by clever installation of the Skyframe System, with integrated drainage allowing seamless continuation of the flooring and ceiling finish from the inside to the covered outside area. New underfloor heating and a complete AV system was also installed with Crestron & Lutron Automation and Control over all of the Lighitng and AV. We worked with our partners at Kitchen Architecture who supplied the stylish Bautaulp B3 Kitchen and Gaggenau Applicances, to design a large kitchen that was stunning to look at in this newly created room, but also gave all the functionality our clients needed with their large family and frequent entertaining.

What appears to be an eat-in kitchen is actually a separate galley kitchen and dining space. The open kitchen makes it feel more like one large room. The hallway behind the kitchen leads to a small mudroom. Recessed task lighting in the ceiling and under the cabinets improve usability after sundown. Though compact, this galley kitchen makes excellent use of its space with smart storage.

Sea La Vie House has a contemporary architecture. Its main feature is its irregular sloped roof which is something that is reflected in the interior ceilings as well. In the open layout social areas there is a wooden ceiling that has this irregular shape which contrast with the white of the walls and furniture.

The reflective antiqued mirror increases the spacial illusion in this dining area. The cove lighting adds a layer of warmth.

This project is a great example of how to transform a historic architectural home into a very livable and modern aesthetic. The home was completely gutted and reworked. All lighting and furnishings were custom designed for the project by Garret Cord Werner. The interior architecture was also completed by our firm to create interesting balance between old and new.
