Historic Home in East Nashville gets a classic black and white makeover after the March 2020 tornado. Original door, window casings, and tub were saved. Every additional element was chosen to combine the historic nature of the home and neighborhood with the homeowner's modern style.

Our client’s charming cottage was no longer meeting the needs of their family. We needed to give them more space but not lose the quaint characteristics that make this little historic home so unique. So we didn’t go up, and we didn’t go wide, instead we took this master suite addition straight out into the backyard and maintained 100% of the original historic façade. Master Suite This master suite is truly a private retreat. We were able to create a variety of zones in this suite to allow room for a good night’s sleep, reading by a roaring fire, or catching up on correspondence. The fireplace became the real focal point in this suite. Wrapped in herringbone whitewashed wood planks and accented with a dark stone hearth and wood mantle, we can’t take our eyes off this beauty. With its own private deck and access to the backyard, there is really no reason to ever leave this little sanctuary. Master Bathroom The master bathroom meets all the homeowner’s modern needs but has plenty of cozy accents that make it feel right at home in the rest of the space. A natural wood vanity with a mixture of brass and bronze metals gives us the right amount of warmth, and contrasts beautifully with the off-white floor tile and its vintage hex shape. Now the shower is where we had a little fun, we introduced the soft matte blue/green tile with satin brass accents, and solid quartz floor (do you see those veins?!). And the commode room is where we had a lot fun, the leopard print wallpaper gives us all lux vibes (rawr!) and pairs just perfectly with the hex floor tile and vintage door hardware. Hall Bathroom We wanted the hall bathroom to drip with vintage charm as well but opted to play with a simpler color palette in this space. We utilized black and white tile with fun patterns (like the little boarder on the floor) and kept this room feeling crisp and bright.

We created a completely new layout, squaring off the walls in the bathroom and the wall it shared with the master bedroom, adding a double-door entry to the bathroom from the bedroom and eliminating the (somewhat strange) built-in desk in the bedroom. Moving the locations of the closet and the commode closet to the front of the bathroom made room for a massive shower and allows the light from the window that had been in the former closet to brighten the space. It also made room for the bathroom’s new focal point: the fabulous freestanding soaking tub framed by deep niche shelving. The new double-door entry shower features a linear drain, bench seating, three showerheads (two handheld and one overhead), and floor-to-ceiling tile. A floating double vanity with bookend storage towers in contrasting wood anchors the opposite wall and offers abundant storage (including two built-in hampers in the towers). Champagne bronze fixtures and honey bronze hardware complete the look of this luxurious retreat.

Here is an photo of the bathroom long after the shower insert, heart shaped tub and aged lighting and hardware became a thing of the past, here we have a large walk in closet, new drop in porcelain sinks, a large walk-in tile shower with a frameless solid glass shower door equipped with self leveling hinges. with the leftover tile we also added a custom backsplash to the existing vanity for that little extra something. To the right is a fully customized barn-style door of my own design-Patented i might add, all tied together with wood patterned linoleum and bordered with original wood grain base moulding.

Charming and pink - powder baths are a great place to add a spark of unexpected character. Our design for this tiny Berlin Altbau powder bathroom was inspired from the pink glass border in its vintage window. It includes Kristy Kropat Design “Blooming Dots” wallpaper in the “emerald rose” custom color-way.
