DOWNLOAD NOW This charming little attic bath was an infrequently used guest bath located on the 3rd floor right above the master bath that we were also remodeling. The beautiful original leaded glass windows open to a view of the park and small lake across the street. A vintage claw foot tub sat directly below the window. This is where the charm ended though as everything was sorely in need of updating. From the pieced-together wall cladding to the exposed electrical wiring and old galvanized plumbing, it was in definite need of a gut job. Plus the hardwood flooring leaked into the bathroom below which was priority one to fix. Once we gutted the space, we got to rebuilding the room. We wanted to keep the cottage-y charm, so we started with simple white herringbone marble tile on the floor and clad all the walls with soft white shiplap paneling. A new clawfoot tub/shower under the original window was added. Next, to allow for a larger vanity with more storage, we moved the toilet over and eliminated a mish mash of storage pieces. We discovered that with separate hot/cold supplies that were the only thing available for a claw foot tub with a shower kit, building codes require a pressure balance valve to prevent scalding, so we had to install a remote valve. We learn something new on every job! There is a view to the park across the street through the home’s original custom shuttered windows. Can’t you just smell the fresh air? We found a vintage dresser and had it lacquered in high gloss black and converted it into a vanity. The clawfoot tub was also painted black. Brass lighting, plumbing and hardware details add warmth to the room, which feels right at home in the attic of this traditional home. We love how the combination of traditional and charming come together in this sweet attic guest bath. Truly a room with a view! The house's second bathroom was only half a bath with an access door at the dining area. We extended the bathroom by an additional 36" into the family room and relocated the entry door to be in the minor hallway leading to the family room as well. A classical transitional bathroom with white crayon style tile on the walls, including the entire wall of the toilet and the vanity. The alcove tub has a barn door style glass shower enclosure. and the color scheme is a classical white/gold/blue mix.

The transformation of this room from a dark, tiny corner bedroom into a light, relaxing and luxurious master bathroom was magical and all it took was a velux window and updating the horse hair plaster with modern sheetrock. A small dark room became large enough to house a soaking tub big enough for two, a double vanity and towel storage. The oversized mirror reflects the skylight perfectly, making this a delightful room any time of day and an incredible spot to watch the stars from the tub on an evening.

By eliminating a full height wall on either side of the original shower door, natural light now pours into the shower providing a sense of space in a relatively small shower. A thermostatic shower valve with diverter allows bathers to pick the right right shower head and the right water temperature for their personal comfort. A shampoo shelf is a cleverly disguised grab bar by Invisia. The hand held shower head rests on a wall hook that is adjacent to the fold down shower seat.

An in-law-suite or just some extra space for guests and entertaining, this Addition sits a few steps across the deck from the house. A modest living area with wet bar has vaulted ceilings with clerestory windows over the French doors. The bathroom is in the center with a vaulted ceiling above. A private small bedroom sits at the rear, with high ceilings and lots of natural light. The small scale is in keeping with the 100-year-old house, while the shed roof and wall of glass give it a contemporary spin. Deck was re-built and stairs added.

浴室リフォームのデザイン、レイアウト、費用

浴室リフォームの技法には大きく分けて「在来工法」と「ユニットバス (システムバス)」の2通りがあります。

在来工法：「在来工法」とは、壁、床、窓枠、浴槽などを実際の現場で左官、大工、タイル職人等が作り上げていく技法で、浴室の大きさや形に合わせて自由にレイアウトをデザインできたり、趣のあるタイルで壁を演出することができたりといった点が利点と言えます。昔ながらのこの技法には、費用が高い、工期が長い、年数が経つと水漏れの心配がある、などの注意点があります。
ユニットバス（システムバス）：比較的新しいこの技法は、予め工場で生産されたパーツ (壁、バスタブ、シャワーユニットなど) を現場で組み立てていく技法で、防水性、断熱性に優れ、工期を短縮できるだけでなく、費用も大幅に抑えることができます。在来工法と比べると、デザインやレイアウトの自由度が低い点が欠点としてあげられます。

浴室にプラスアルファでお風呂タイムをもっと楽しく

介護が必要な方には、浴室に浴槽手すりやシャワーチェア、すべり止めマットなどの安全グッズを使って、癒やしの時間を安全にゆっくりと楽しんでもらいましょう。浴室に床暖房を取り入れると、冬場のあのヒンヤリ感がなくなり、ヒートショックの防止に効果が期待できます。大粒のお湯が頭上から降り注ぐように全身を包み込むレインシャワー水栓は、効率的に身体を温めてくれます。また最近では、浴室テレビを装備して、あたたかいお湯に浸かりながらテレビ番組や映画を楽しむ方も増えています。ライフスタイルにあわせて、浴室をカスタマイズしてみてはいかがでしょうか？

ラクラク片付け、快適な浴室！

シャンプーやコンディショナーのボトルや、浴槽洗いのブラシは、ワイヤーラック、つっぱりコーナーラック、吸盤シェルフなど壁面収納グッズを活用して、浴室の使いやすい場所に設置しましょう。ボディスポンジなど、肌に触れるものはお掃除グッズから離れた場所に置き、しっかり水切りができるよう吸盤フックなどにかけるといいでしょう。また、浴室内には必要なアイテムだけをセレクトして置き、余分なモノは浴室外の脱衣所の棚に保管するなどの工夫も、お風呂場を清潔に保つコツです。風呂ふたも、フックやスタンド等を使って収納し、しっかり乾燥させれば、カビやぬめりの発生を防ぐことができます。

ホテルのようなバスルームをつくるコツ

ホテルライクなバスルームに誰しもが憧れたことがあるでしょう。すっきりとした収納、余計なものやプライベート感がない、トイレとバスが一緒の三点ユニットでも清潔感があるのがホテルのバスルームの特徴です。このようなシンプルな印象のバスルームにするコツは、収納をできるかぎり1カ所にまとめるということです。タオルや着替え、トイレットペーパーや洗剤など溢れがち (しかもバスルームに置きがち) な日用品のストックは、必要分だけをコンパクトに整理して、同素材や同系色の収納ボックスやラックにまとめることで、全体を統一感ある印象に見せます。ところで、このようなホテルライクなバスルームはアメリカのバスルームが元になっていますが、アメリカの Houzz サイトの特集記事 (Story) には、“Bathroom 1 1/2” や “Bathroom 3/4” などと表記されているものがあります。これは、バスルームを「バスタブ」、「シャワー」、「トイレ」、「洗面台」の4つ分けて、それぞれ 1/4 と考え、4つすべてある場合は ”Bathroom 1”、それに加えてトイレと洗面台がもう1カ所ずつある場合は “Bathroom 1 1/2”、シャワー、トイレ、洗面台だけでバスタブがない場合は “Bathroom 3/4” のように表現されます。
