For the bathroom, we went for a moody and classic look. Sticking with a black and white color palette, we have chosen a classic subway tile for the shower walls and a black and white hex for the bathroom floor. The black vanity and floral wallpaper brought some emotion into the space and adding the champagne brass plumbing fixtures and brass mirror was the perfect pop.

Creating specific focal points for this owner’s bathroom was important. Client wanted a modern-forward spa-like bathroom retreat. We created it by using rich colors to create contrast in the tile. We included lighted niches for the bathtub and shower as well as in the custom-built linen shelves. The large casement window opens up the space and the honeycomb gold chandelier really added a touch of elegance to the room while pulling out the gold tones in the floor and wall tile. We also included a contemporary 84” trough double vanity and a freestanding bath tub complete with a bath filler to complete the space.

DOWNLOAD NOW This unit, located in a 4-flat owned by TKS Owners Jeff and Susan Klimala, was remodeled as their personal pied-à-terre, and doubles as an Airbnb property when they are not using it. Jeff and Susan were drawn to the location of the building, a vibrant Chicago neighborhood, 4 blocks from Wrigley Field, as well as to the vintage charm of the 1890’s building. The entire 2 bed, 2 bath unit was renovated and furnished, including the kitchen, with a specific Parisian vibe in mind. Although the location and vintage charm were all there, the building was not in ideal shape -- the mechanicals -- from HVAC, to electrical, plumbing, to needed structural updates, peeling plaster, out of level floors, the list was long. Susan and Jeff drew on their expertise to update the issues behind the walls while also preserving much of the original charm that attracted them to the building in the first place -- heart pine floors, vintage mouldings, pocket doors and transoms. Because this unit was going to be primarily used as an Airbnb, the Klimalas wanted to make it beautiful, maintain the character of the building, while also specifying materials that would last and wouldn’t break the budget. Susan enjoyed the hunt of specifying these items and still coming up with a cohesive creative space that feels a bit French in flavor. Parisian style décor is all about casual elegance and an eclectic mix of old and new. Susan had fun sourcing some more personal pieces of artwork for the space, creating a dramatic black, white and moody green color scheme for the kitchen and highlighting the living room with pieces to showcase the vintage fireplace and pocket doors. Bagno in stile Vittoriano con carta da parati adatta ad ambienti umidi (viene utilizzata anche negli Hotel) e boiserie color tortora. The center bathroom space features the toilet and an oversized tub. The tile in the tub surround is a white embossed animal print. A subtle surprise. Recent travels to Paris inspired the wallpaper selection for the girl's vanity area. Frosted sliding glass doors separate the spaces, allowing light and privacy.

Debbie Schwab Photography. The wall tiles are 12" x 12" black marble tiles I had the tile installers cut into threes. Stainless steel bars that were all custom cut are at the bottom and top of the tiles. Instead of having a standard niche that fits between studs, I had the guys frame out a wider one. Above it is another niche that is short just for housing soaps and razors. Next step is the glass.
