This small bathroom needed to serve a family with 4 kids, so double sinks were still a must. The rustic vanity turned out so beautiful and they loved the idea of raised ceramic sinks. Oil rubbed bronze accents, soft gray paint, gray wood plank ceramic tile, and white penny tile in the shower pulled this bathroom together seamlessly.

The proposal for the renovation of a small apartment on the third floor of a 1990s block in the hearth of Fitzrovia sets out to wipe out the original layout and update its configuration to suit the requirements of the new owner. The challenge was to incorporate an ambitious brief within the limited space of 48 sqm. A narrow entrance corridor is sandwiched between integrated storage and a pod that houses Utility functions on one side and the Kitchen on the side opposite and leads to a large open space Living Area that can be separated by means of full height pivoting doors. This is the starting point of an imaginary interior circulation route that guides one to the terrace via the sleeping quarter and which is distributed with singularities that enrich the quality of the journey through the small apartment. Alternating the qualities of each space further augments the degree of variation within such a limited space. The materials have been selected to complement each other and to create a homogenous living environment where grey concrete tiles are juxtaposed to spray lacquered vertical surfaces and the walnut kitchen counter adds and earthy touch and is contrasted with a painted splashback. In addition, the services of the apartment have been upgraded and the space has been fully insulated to improve its thermal and sound performance. Photography by Gianluca Maver

We went with a striped feature tile to add some impact to the space. We created a floating vanity with a vessel sink and deck mounted faucet. The round mirror plays with the round sink and hardware. The one piece toilet creates a clean modern look.

Oregon bathroom update

This original 1960s bathroom needed a complete overhaul. The original pink floor and vanity tile as well as the pink ceramic bathtub were all removed and replaced with a clean, timeless look. A majority of the wall space was retiled with classic white subway tile while the floor was redone with a beautiful black and white geometric tile. Black faucets and vessel sinks add a modern touch with the completed look being a combination of modern finishes and traditional touches.

The new bathroom was allocated in the space that was previously used for a storage space, being a bigger bathroom than the previous one. Almost all fittings in the space were preloved, adding a lovely traditional touch and warmth to the room. The brass tapware was sourced from a specialist in rejuvenating old fittings. The reclaimed floor tiles are a stunning addition to the room, adding warmth and a real sense of vibrancy. A simple white built-in bath was chosen, keeping the room fresh and bright. What struck us strange about this property was that it was a beautiful period piece but with the darkest and smallest kitchen considering it's size and potential. We had a quite a few constrictions on the extension but in the end we managed to provide a large bright kitchen/dinning area with direct access to a beautiful garden and keeping the 'new ' in harmony with the existing building. The main bath was the last project after finishing this home's bamboo kitchen and master bathroom. While the layout stayed the same, we were able to bring more storage into the space with a new vanity cabinet, and a medicine cabinet mirror. We removed the shower and surround and placed a more modern tub with a glass shower door to make the space more open. The mosaic green tile was what inspired the feel of the whole room, complementing the soft brown and tan tiles. The green accent is found throughout the room including the wall paint, accessories, and even the countertop.

ホテルライクなバスルームに誰しもが憧れたことがあるでしょう。すっきりとした収納、余計なものやプライベート感がない、トイレとバスが一緒の三点ユニットでも清潔感があるのがホテルのバスルームの特徴です。このようなシンプルな印象のバスルームにするコツは、収納をできるかぎり1カ所にまとめるということです。タオルや着替え、トイレットペーパーや洗剤など溢れがち (しかもバスルームに置きがち) な日用品のストックは、必要分だけをコンパクトに整理して、同素材や同系色の収納ボックスやラックにまとめることで、全体を統一感ある印象に見せます。ところで、このようなホテルライクなバスルームはアメリカのバスルームが元になっていますが、アメリカの Houzz サイトの特集記事 (Story) には、“Bathroom 1 1/2” や “Bathroom 3/4” などと表記されているものがあります。これは、バスルームを「バスタブ」、「シャワー」、「トイレ」、「洗面台」の4つ分けて、それぞれ 1/4 と考え、4つすべてある場合は ”Bathroom 1”、それに加えてトイレと洗面台がもう1カ所ずつある場合は “Bathroom 1 1/2”、シャワー、トイレ、洗面台だけでバスタブがない場合は “Bathroom 3/4” のように表現されます。
