Ter Hoeven Design is led by Tanya and Bernard, interior and furniture designers (National Design Academy and Royal College of Art). As interior designers, we are delighted to translate our clients' ideas into spaces that suit them both aesthetically and functionally. We offer a wide range of services, from space planning and furniture selection to project management for home renovations. As furniture designers, we create unique pieces of furniture or accessories for specific rooms, in cases where, for technical or stylistic reasons, the desired items cannot be purchased. We have full control over the production process, which expands the choice of materials, colours and finishes. We tend towards an eclectic style mix, incorporating modern objects into traditional houses and vice versa. All our furniture is made to order. The ability to create custom items for our interior projects allows us to bring the design concept to life with ease and precision. We also take orders for bespoke furniture for completed and on-going renovations, working with private clients and interior designers. In addition, we specialise in designing unusual storage systems, multifunctional walls with hidden TV or built-in dining tables, traditional or modern radiator covers, sliding cabinet doors with panelling, connecting them with wall panelling. We can offer space saving, energy saving or noise protection design solutions.

Our hallway is the second piece of work we invited Ter Hoeven Design to do for us. I was initially concerned that the proposed wardrobe will not fit into the long and narrow corridor in our Victorian flat in Fulham. However, it miraculously fitted the space and is perfectly comfortable in use. More over, the decorative elements of oak wood on the doors make it look and feel as a piece of art! As a result of this creative project we have an elegant row of furniture which is not only functional (the bench is also a space to keep bags, bike’s helmets etc.) but also creates a welcoming vibe into the living space. Strongly recommend Ter Hoeven Design - their work transformed our place in ways I was not able to imagine.

The living area of our open space on the ground floor was in need of a design rethink and refurbishment due to the purchase of a new sofa. As a result of Ter Hoeven Design’s work, we have a cosy corner around the wood-burning stove, where we enjoy evening family gatherings. Two armchairs designed by Bernard not only fit into the existing furniture ensemble, but also united its separate parts. This is not the first time this team has helped us in our projects, and we are, as before, very satisfied. Looking forward to doing a new project together. Martijn Kluizenaar

We faced the difficult task of turning our 1-bedroom apartment into a 2-bedroom apartment, one for the adults and one for a 3-year-old child, with the prospect of a second baby. Thanks to Ter Hoeven Design, this became an exciting process for us. We discussed layout options, where Tanya and Bernard found different ways to interpret our ideas. Each of the 3 plans presented to us had its advantages, we just had to choose what we liked the most. We then went through the mood boards for each room to make sure we had chosen the right style and colour palette and see if the design concept worked for us. Finally, we received beautifully realistic pictures including the furniture and décor, which was similar to that included in the shopping list compiled by our designers. It was a pleasure to deal with Ter Hoeven Design. We can’t recommend them highly enough!

We were lucky to interest Tanya and Bernard with a project which was quite challenging - how to make out of our garden room (size 190/120) - a study with a desk and bookshelves, which would also work as a guest room. I knew they love challenge, and they came with a very creative solution for this quite problematic space. Bernard’s armchair is a real piece of art and design: in combination with the footstool it turns into a guest bed, which I personally tested - it is surprisingly comfortable to sleep on. By replacing our door with a sliding one they connected the garden room and even the garden with the entire flat. I find their team work very impressive - they not only do interior design and bespoke furniture but are also interested in quirky stuff like the coexistence of what is built by people and it’s natural surrounding.

My garden room was in dire need of a redesign and Tanya and Bernard did a great job together. Tanya took care to keep me in touch with the design plan and costs and they ensured that the plan was fully completed when they arrived despite the quirks of a flat built at the end of the 19th century! Bernard cleverly designed an armchair which can also serve as a bed for my visitors. He also built a fine desk with a very smoothly sliding drawer to complement a new sliding door. It is a much more inviting space in which to work and relax and we were very heppy to show the refurbishment to friends, one of whom asked Tanya and Bernard to design similar clever items for her sitting room.

How lucky was I to be recommended Tanya and B? From the initial brief to design a bespoke TV unit for my small flat I felt in safe hands. Everything I had requested was in the design - and a whole lot more! Tanya having listened carefully to my plans for a folding table to seat 2 or more guests, sent me an animation of what was possible and the options of different colourways. It was, therefore, very easy to decide to go ahead with the project and end up with shelving to display my lovely crystal and silverware and a beautiful table to seat 2 or accommodate 4 guests and me plus a place for the TV! Having been so impressed with B's workmanship, I've also commissioned 5 bespoke folding chairs which will be stored away when not in use. I would thoroughly recommend this husband and wife team to anyone looking for good design, thoughtful interpretation of the brief and beautiful craftmanship.
