Studio Hako is a design and build construction company specialising in modern commercial and residential projects. Our fully comprehensive service includes all phases of construction, from the initial conversation to drawing, and conceptual design through to project completion. Founded by Joel Culley, he interprets every client’s unique aesthetic with a passion for detail, high quality materials, method and finish. Raised on a family tradition of furniture and cabinet making, with over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, Joel’s mindful approach to design is both inclusive and composed. Each project is developed with careful consideration to the client’s needs and desires, whilst drawing from contemporary building techniques, construction materials and ingenuity of modern interior design. Buildings and design are ultimately human orientated. Not just in purpose, but in their very creation. From comprehensive consultations with clients to liaising with expert craftsman, artisans and technicians, Studio Hako relishes the opportunity to fully connect with every person they meet to ensure the finished product is of excellence. I wanted a complete update of my flat which included the essentials – boiler, rewiring, flooring and so on. I also wanted to work with someone who absolutely understood the aesthetic that I had in mind. Joel Culley, founder of Studio Hako, was recommended to me by a friend who had previously worked with Joel. From the initial consultation, I was more than confident that I’d found the right person. It was refreshing to find someone, who not only could contend with the building side of the project, but also who had a discerning eye for style and detail. The finished look was exactly as I’d hoped for – a minimal contemporary feel, which was easy on the eye, practical, cool, and with lots of hidden storage. And from which I was able to add splashes of colour to complete a relaxed, urban and interesting living space. I wouldn’t hesitate to have Joel and his team on board again, should I have any future projects.

During lockdown we undertook a loft conversion and entire house rebuild of our Victorian end-of-terrace, working with Hollie Bowden Interiors. Joel was a calming, efficient and solutions-based presence throughout. There was clear structure and overview, honesty and transparency and attention to excellence. What I really valued most throughout the process was the engaged communication and constructive responses. Joel was a real collaborator, with empathy and pragmatism. He cares about the job being done, and doing it properly. He was diligent and patient and the after-care has been equally excellent. Would strongly recommend.

Working with Joel and his team at Studio Hako was an absolute pleasure. They worked on the build for my showroom fit and did the most beautiful job all within a very tight time frame. I was very impressed with their responsiveness, dedication and attention to detail. I felt completely confident from the moment I met with Joel and his team that our shop was in safe hands and that we could rely on them to bring the vision to life. The whole team was professional and warm and I would be very happy to work with them in the future.

Studio Hako carried out a side & loft extension and full reno of our victorian terraced house in 2019. they managed the whole design and fit out excellently. We are not easy clients and there were many challenges that were handled sensitively and to an incredibly high standard. The team are very dedicated and the quality of service was superb. Excellent communication from start to finish and finding a construction company who align with your vision are few and far between.

We appointed Studio Hako as the main contractor for a large combined hair salon and retail space we designed in Hackney, East London. It was an ambitious project, delivered under incredibly challenging circumstances (various levels of Covid lockdowns) yet the project ran smoothly throughout and the exceptional level of finish we were able to achieve was possible only through the care, craftsmanship and attention to detail of Joel and his team.

I worked with Studio Hako for the fit out of my new salon space in Hackney Glasshouse Salon. Joel was incredibly professional and supportive throughout the process, as were all of his team members and contractors. I experienced great communication throughout the project and felt well guided when there were unexpected issues. Studio Hako offers a well rounded service that encompassed more than just the build, but also consultation on things like technology and sounds systems etc. We really enjoyed working with a company that share our love for sustainability, quality design and longevity.
