We had never been through a renovation before & we were very leery having heard many horror stories from those that had. We interviewed a few companies that had been referred to us & decided on Villamar. What a pleasant surprise. They quoted 3 months to get the job done & lived up to that promise. We had pretty much the whole house done, new wooden flooring in the master bedroom, both guest & master bathroom gutted & redone, heated tiled flooring in the master bathroom, new kitchen, wooden floors refinished & the whole house painted, so not a small job & all this during covid. Any issues that came up, their contractor, JT, took care of it to ensure they met the deadline. Working with their recommended designer was a pleasure as were all the trades they brought in. We're so grateful we hired Villamar Design and Villamar Construction to build our home. Since it was our first time building, we had no idea what to expect, but they made the process easy and enjoyable. We liked that Villamar used an app/website to keep us updated on our project (selections, costs, important dates, pictures, budget) and their team is so approachable and kind. In late 2017 we chose Villamar Construction to build our dream retirement home through a personal reference. We had sketched out a house plan and the Villamar design term turned a graph-paper drawing into a viable engineered and approved house plan. We had built 3 homes on the Mainland and were familiar with the building process. The major take-aways for us working with Villamar were: On budget. Even though we ran into some unexpected challenges we managed to complete the project within 5% of the projected budget. From our prior building experience we regard staying within 10% of budget or less as excellent project management. On time. We were told that construction would take approximately 7 – 9 months. Construction began March 15 and we received our Occupancy Permit November 26th or 8.5 months after breaking ground. Polite workers. This may sound trivial but my wife and I lived in a house proximate to the project and visited the site daily. Villamar trades are both professional and personable. No profanity and friendly polite response to our comments and questions. Also thoughtful of neighbours. Some tradesmen set up a “rock festival loud” sound system and blast the entire neighbourhood with their choice of music. When trades did have music it was kept at a respectful level. Clean worksite. Food wrappers, construction waste, drink bottles, cigarette butts and general litter are often found on many projects. We frequently commented on the cleanliness of the worksite and were pleased that Villamar frequently hauled away construction debris maintaining a safer and cleaner site. Communication. Ongoing ability to check proposed vs actual budget by computer. Prompt and pleasant communication with management and project supervisors at all times. Final product. Villamar did not consider the project complete until every minor detail was completed to our satisfaction and we are thrilled with our new home. For these important reasons we highly recommend considering Villamar Construction for your project and would be pleased to provide a reference to potential clients.

After retirement and four years of condo living my husband and I decided it was time to move back to a “home”. I found what I though it could become the perfect fit for us but my husband didn’t want anything to do with it; he walked in and out of the house. We had done house renovations before but nothing of the magnitude needed by this new house. Our realtor guided us to Villamar Construction and Villamar made possible a complete transformation. Having decided to move to Victoria from Calgary we thought it opportune to renovate our 1700 square foot condo in Broadmead. Villamar was recommended as a reliable agent for such an endeavour. Initial contacts were over the phone making design decisions difficult. We managed, though, to map out the scope of the renovation but design decisions waited on our arrival in Victoria. This is when the afterburners kicked in. In 6 weeks the design was finalized, the budget set and the renovation was completed - carpets, painting, lighting, bathrooms and kitchen. The work was done very professionally by courteous and efficient contractors - on time and on budget. We are very pleased with the work and service provided by Villamar and commend them to anyone seeking to do renovation work.

The Villamar team were a delight to work with. From our first meeting, they came across as being very organized and informative. That continued throughout the project. We always felt like we were consulted on about decisions, we were able to pitch in and do some of the work ourselves and contribute to the overall project alongside their team. Even with so many people having a hand in our project, we were always communicated with and everyone we talked to at any given point knew where our project was at. If any issues arose throughout we were informed immediately. They offered unique solutions so some of our space challenges and worked with some of our somewhat abstract design ideas. Villamar was so great throughout our renovation! They helped keep things moving and on schedule and were very communicative. They could have gotten us to choose lights and fixtures sooner to keep us on schedule towards the end but that is easily changed in the future.

We are delighted to have the opportunity to give a reference for Villamar and the design department. From our very first meeting we were impressed with the professionalism, knowledge and responsiveness of this team. At first we were looking to build a new house and Villamar became our partner in searching for the perfect lot. They ran out to multiple sites on our behalf to give their feedback. This was something no other contractor would do for us. We then purchased an existing house which needed a total gut and refurbishment. Once again Villamar was exceptional to work with. Because the scope of our work did not meet their needs they opted not to move forward with the actual renovations but were more than willing to work with us on the design phase. He was always personable, open to all kinds of ideas, searched for options to create the idea we had in mind, very knowledgeable about building codes, was responsive to our changes as the plan developed and was conscious of our timeline. In the end, we had a design and plan that was exactly what we were looking for in the timeline we needed. We would not hesitate to use Villamar again, should the need arise!

This was our first experience building a house, (let alone a duplex!) although we had previously done renovations with contractors.
