Tony has made a name for himself as one of the San Francisco’s luxury, premier vintage and contemporary carpet dealers, working with acclaimed interior designers and high profile collectors worldwide. Tony began his career working with antique carpet and textile dealer Baktari Gallery, where he was introduced to high quality rugs and quickly learned the tricks of the trade. After honing his eye for luxury home goods while managing Baktari Gallery’s Pacific Heights store and working with Peter Pap Oriental Rugs, he established Tony Kitz Gallery in 1994. At his eponymous business, Tony showcases the highest quality collection of antique, vintage, and contemporary carpets sourced from Turkey, India, Nepal, Morocco, Afghanistan and beyond. Partnering with a vast network of trusted suppliers, his rug selection demonstrates an excellent balance of color, condition, surface, and materials. Tony Kitz distinguishes himself from competitors with his breadth of knowledge, one of a kind, luxurious inventory, and unparalleled customer service.

Tony Kitz is a wonderful source for vintage and antique rugs in San Francisco. I love bringing clients to his showroom to look at rugs as well as trusting him with simple design direction to then bring rugs to us to see in the client's home.

We are a high end design firm and we have used Tony Kitz for most of our clients. He has a fabulous inventory, is very knowledgeable and is a pleasure to deal with. Tony and his staff are professional and accommodating so we are always comfortable bringing clients to his showroom. He is always ready for us with options to view, that are the correct size and work within our budgets. He will also bring rugs to a client's home so they can be viewed on site. We are lucky to have him as a resource and look forward to many more successful projects together!

Tony, a true expert in his field, is my go-to source for uniquely beautiful new and antique rugs. As a designer I have the pleasure of working directly with Tony on many projects and his collections have become an integral part of my design process. Tony’s expertise has incredible value in finding carpets as unique as my clients and their homes. After getting the background on space requirements, color palette, and design aesthetic, Tony goes to work picking out treasures to present. Tony is passionate about making sure a buyer can truly get a sense of what they are purchasing and one of my favorite parts of looking at rugs with Tony, is how he gives the history of the carpets he is showing, and explains about the weaving techniques and the villages they came from. Both my clients and I feel more connected to the selections. I highly recommend Tony to anyone looking at purchasing a vintage or newly made area rug for their home!

Tony has a great eye and is very selective of what he carries. He is the go to for ethnic looks, masculine and antique runners especially. Some of his constructions are brilliant as well. I've designed and developed graphic chindi loop tuffets as products before but here he is making it into rugs? Brilliant. His team is also a dream to work with. Thank you for all you do.
