Jack helped me transform my horrible back yard, the back 40 feet of which sloped 20 feet down to an unimproved dead end alley, into a beautiful and functional sanctuary that is the envy of the neighborhood. He took the time to explore various design options and came up with one that is beautiful and was also affordable. Jack was careful for keep me apprised of costs throughout the project, so there were no surprises. He really went "above and beyond" to get approval for the variances needed from the city to do the project. The thoroughness of his presentation and his outstanding communication before the Board of Adjustments contributed greatly in making this project a reality. Jack takes special care to listen to the client's needs. For example, I wanted a low maintenance solution so that I can age in place without a lot of yard maintenance. I also wanted to be able to use my yard for entertaining. Jack's solution includes a 12.5 foot retaining wall across the back of my property, which creates a sizable flat space in my yard. For this space, Jack designed an enclosed garden house that can be used year round since it is heated with a gas fireplace and is great for entertaining. It is surrounded by a porcelain stone patio and garden beds for vegetables and perennials. The project also includes bluestone walls and stairs, cobblestone walkways, a waterfall and outside gas fire pit, very thoughtful lighting, custom designed privacy screens, buried utility wires, and an irrigation system. Project implementation began in March 2016 with the smashing of a deteriorating concrete garage and building the 12.5 foot retaining wall. The project was completed in mid-September 2016, meeting my required deadline. Jack was very conscientious about meeting the deadline since he knew I was hosting a family event. One of Jack's qualities that I truly admire is his attention to details. The cohesiveness of his design is spot on, and he takes pride in ensuring that the implementation is as it should be. If things are not right, he gets them corrected. It was a great pleasure to work with Jack, and I appreciated that he was so willing to share his wealth of knowledge with me. He knows a great deal about design, materials, construction, plants and their maintenance, and lighting.
