Working with Stu was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. We loved working with him so much that I'm not sure we will ever edit our home again without his expertise. He listened to all of our needs, and even facilitated us listening to each other's needs, a unique and valuable skill during any renovation. Stu pays attention to the smallest details and brings them to fruition with patience and aptitude. With Stu's hands on, invaluable guidance, my husband, who had never built anything before, was able to complete the construction work of our project himself, and Stu's grounding and skillful presence was absolutely crucial to this process. He also somehow found a way to translate our vision in a budget friendly way, while exceeding our high expectations. We are excited to work with him on our next project, and cannot recommend him highly enough.

In 2014 we began working with Stu Lathers to turn our 1956 cottage into a reimagined space for our permanent home, one in which we could grow old while welcoming family and friends. In the fall of 2019 we moved into a stunning home of which we are proud and in awe. Stu was a joy with whom to work. He is a man of architectural and construction expertise. He is also a man of ideas, of details and of concern. Stu built a strong relationship with us. As importantly, he already had established long term relationships with our prime contractor and his subcontractors. His professionalism and personality made our project the exciting and rewarding experience we hoped it would be. The time in development was not continuous as we had some stops and starts due to selling our upstate New York home and putting together the necessary financing. The time, however, was well spent as it gave us time to assess our immediate and long term needs. It also allowed Stu to provide alternative designs for our consideration. The final design which we chose involved removing the second floor and expanding it across unused space. Although we worked with the original footprint of the home, he expanded its living area to a degree we once thought impossible. Stu worked with us, the contractor and the craftsmen before and during construction to incorporate design details that do much to add to the beauty and functionality of our home. Our home has received many compliments from our family and friends calling it……”stunning”, “out of a magazine”, “a place that makes me happy”, “it exudes warmth”, “a beautiful addition to our street”….to name a few. Those who built our new old home are proud of what resulted from Stu’s design and expertise. This, in itself, is an endorsement of his capabilities. We are grateful that Stu led our project and gave us what we have today.

In 2003, I worked with Stuart Lathers to expand my modest ranch to create a gourmet kitchen with a walk-in pantry and a master suite with walk-in closet, jacuzzi tub, double sinks, and separate shower. A few years later we realized we needed a little more space, so I contacted Stuart again to design a second floor. The space includes an art room, a yoga room and study space. Not only did he design the space but all the trim and built-in bookcases and cabinets for the art room. A couple of years after that I hired Stuart again to design built-ins for the master suite and living room as well as trim work and paneling. Stuart has always been extremely professional, respectful and collaborative not only with the me but everyone associated with the project. He has built up a wide network to help with any project. Anyone he suggests is also very respectful and professional. I highly recommend Stuart for any architectural needs.

Stu Lathers is a pleasure to work with. He takes the time to listen to his clients and has the knowledge and creativity to conceptualize and bring ideas to reality. He has a strong aesthetic sense and works well with the client and contractor to customize designs. Our project on the water in Guilford, CT was done in two stages and involved rebuilding both the front and back of the house. This entailed significant structural redesign of most of the interior rooms, exterior facades, and the addition of extra square footage in a very confined building envelope. Stu's work is meticulous and insightful. Additionally, he is a wonderful person and has the rare ability to analyze and understand the needs of his clients. Our project came out beautifully because of his thoughtful plans. We are lucky to have worked with him and recommend him highly!
