Interior Design and Decoration Over a period of 20 years, Steven Peabody has been engaged by me to apply his superior talents in the extensive rehabilitation and interior design and decoration of an historic 130-year old, four-story brownstone in Hoboken’s uptown district. The results of his efforts have created arguably the most stunning private residence in Hoboken. Steven’s fine artistic aesthetic have been nothing short of inspired and explosive in the context of design and decoration. The project, as initially defined, combines the Victorian structural features of the brownstone (as rehabilitated) and a selection of traditional furnishings throughout with Steven’s dramatic, surreal flair in lighting, color, texture and depth. Consequently, rooms that begin with beautiful oriental carpets or restored wood floors are wrapped by Steven’s intensive attention to his creation of a variety of faux finishes, mosaic borders, trompe l’oeil features, gilded finishes, stained glass windows and, above all, his ethereal ceiling murals. His work extends to all living spaces within the building, including a floor-length great room on the entry level, study, bedrooms, and kitchen and dining areas. In addition, he has designed an outstanding urban garden in the rear of the building, replete with sculpture, fountain and foliage. Fine Art However, a description of Steven’s contributions is not complete without reference to the several masterful pieces of fine art created by him and exhibited in the residence. These demonstrate themes derived from a psychotherapeutic and social Darwinian context in surreal compositions utilizing his unique talents applying light, color and dimension. The core of this collection is a progression of three paintings entitled, respectively, “The Kill”, “Justice Triumphs” and “Justice at Bay”. In the initial work, the artist combines dramatic, hot colors in a multidimensional, surreal composition that describes the multiple onslaught of predators (in animal form) directed at an animal victim, a metaphor for contemporary society. In the later piece, the artist utilizes cooler, but still vibrant and less earthly themes surreally to describe the contrary aspiration of justice (exemplified by the goddess Themis) prevailing over predation (exemplified by the jaguar). In the most recent work, the artist applies a combination of hot and cooler color in the supremely mature perspective of justice (again exemplified by the goddess Themis) surrounded by but holding at bay a convergence of predators (in animal form), signifying the dynamic but tenuous balance between civilization and the jungle. These pieces completely engage thought as the viewer contemplates and absorbs the interaction of light, color and dimension and ultimately derives their message. These paintings both challenge and educate and, as a consequence of their professional construction, appeal thoroughly to an aesthetic sensibility.

Steven Peabody transformed my living space with color, lines, and his unique style of design. When I lived in Hoboken, I hired him. When I moved to West New York, I hired him again. He made my apartment living so incredible. I love how comfortable and relaxed I felt in my home. Steven also became my interior designer as well. His mix of colors and style made me look as if my apt. should be on the cover of a New York Magazine! I had so many people walk into my apartment and say: "WOW! This is spectacular!" I live on the water with a natural view of the Palisades and Hudson River Valley. Steven Peabody's artistic finishes brings this natural beauty of the river life into my home. I didn't know that influencing a positive connection to my life through my home is what an artist designer can do. His approach to developing a working relationship is educationally refreshing, he talks about sense of design in all life's forms. This has opened my eyes and mind to a previously unknown visual world. I recommend Steven Peabody for designing your home or any part of it. I found his work ethic is high throughout the process of problem solving and creating beauty. His unique work on walls and ceilings is both inspiring and extremely sensitive to my individual needs and interests. Presently, we're in phase four, working on ceiling murals, and custom chandeliers. Other projects created a comforting and inspiring entryway, magnificent muralled living room, and eye popping kitchen, functional pieces for my creative work, and aesthetic structures for my garden deck. Since I am a lover of both canvas and sculptural fine art I was open to new concepts of eliminating a boxy looking room. As in the case of gifted people Steven also paints fine art, using a classic European technique of the old masters. His work reflecting my life themes hangs in my home. Steven Peabody is helping me create my haven, a living breathing gallery of my favorite styles of art and architectural detailing made with color and light. Combining with my furnishings important and necessary to my chosen life. I am living with artistic designs on my walls and ceilings that I never tire of continuing to inspire and comfort me.

I worked with Steven on a custom wall project for Housing Work's Design On A Dime 2015. The collaboration was one of the most fulfilling of my experience. He is at once inspiring, insightful and technically knowledgeable. Over 1,600 designers,project managers and potential clients gave us rave reviews on the amazing beauty and coordination of art, furnishings and finishes we created together. His amazing artwork, custom to the space, was also snatched up quickly! I can highly recommend him as a artist and professional; a total pleasure to work with!
