South of Urban

Jon and South of Urban built me the most amazing stereo console known to mankind. I was very picky about the smallest of details and he worked with me patiently to ensure that I received a piece of furniture that not only exceeded my wildest dreams in terms of style, but is also so well made that it can be passed down for generations. It's the centerpiece of our living room and gorgeous, detailed piece of art all on its own. I can't recommend working with Jon and SoU enough! I hope to have more pieces made by him in the years to come.

A couple of years ago I purchased one of South of Urban's Z lounger chairs and couldn't be more happy. The chair is stylish, comfortable, and was constructed with precision and care. Jon and his team are masters at their craft.

We were looking for new furniture for our small cabbagetown home at mass market retailers like West Elm and Haverty's. Then I remembered that Jon had built this really cool record cabinet for a friend of our's mountain cabin. I reached out to to see if we could afford a piece of his stuff. Jon did an amazing job working with us and figuring out how to deliver what we wanted on a reasonable budget. We ended up redoing our whole dining room and living room in custom, locally designed, locally built, heirloom grade, solid wood furniture for only slightly more than we would have spent at the mass market retailers. The South of Urban Instagram page has the best pics of his designs and he's very accommodating at making tweaks or whole new designs to make the pieces fit your space. I underestimated the satisfaction and pride that would come with having craft furniture made by a friend down the street.

I got a fantastic credenza from Jon and soon after I contacted him for a custom vanity countertop for a bathroom renovation. He had an opening in his schedule and was able to swiftly produce a beautiful piece that matched my aesthetic vision. I consider SOU a great resource for fine furniture with a great modern-meets-vintage aesthetic.

As one of SOU's oldest customers, we don't regret for a second being one of the first to own new products. From custom nightstands, to their first sofa, our SOU purchases have been great decisions and are absolutely a great quality and style fit for our family. The quality is there and it really is spectacular. Affordable craft is rare these days, but Jon makes it work in the best way. Jon takes time to get you what you want and goes above and beyond to deliver the best fit for you. (Even designing up new pieces that aren't in even in his production line yet!) I would and will absolutely buy from SOU again. Been drooling over the desks they are churning out. This work at home dad needs at upgrade. Cheers.

I found South of Urban through searching on the internet. I was looking for credenzas for my living room and gave Jon a call to come visit. I very quickly figured out the quality of product that he produced and that Jon knew what he was doing. He built me a beautiful credenza custom sized to fit my turntable and audio equipment. Everyone that sees it comments on how nice it looks. I was so happy with Jon's work that I recommended him to do work for the HOA of my building. He is getting ready to start a large front desk and banquet for them. I hope to get some more pieces built from him in the future. Thanks Jon!

Jonathan is a true craftsman, and South of Urban makes amazing furniture with integrity and high attention to detail. We bought two of his Z Loungers and have loved them since the day we brought them home. There are lots of furniture makers working in this style of late...but few build with anything close to the care and precision of South of Urban.

I bought a Z Lounger late last year and it's been my favorite piece of furniture in the house since: stylish, comfortable, well-crafted, local.... I'd say half the people who come over ask about it. Jonathan and SoU hit that sweet spot between elegance and affordability.

During the past year we have been working with South of Urban on several projects and always found it to be a very good experience. Jonathon is very professional, takes his clients very seriously and performs a very high quality of craftsmanship. We received one of the first of the newly designed Z loungers. I fell in love with the old design of the Z lounger, and was hopeful for the new design. As the first non-friend/family order, we had to work through some early production quirks. However, Jonathan was good to work with and made good on all of his promises, when he very easily could not have (I wasn't bothering him about it). The chair itself is beautiful. We got the light cherry with beige fabric. the fabric so far has help up to 3 kids. I love the lines of the chair.

We worked with Jonathon to custom design and build a buffet. He was very helpful, creative and patient as we went back and forth in the design phase. Our only concern was that the building and delivery took longer than we expected, but we were thrilled with the final piece.

Jonathon & Clinton are the best. Give them an idea and they will come up with the final product, and it will be better than the initial vision. One sofa and one bed custom made AND one vintage arm chair, headboard/bed and dresser later & we couldn't be happier!
