We hired Alviar woodworking based off of the reviews for a double stringer staircase. He promised to add lights under each tread and did not complete one flight of stairs so the rest have lights except the main stair case that is supposed to be the main feature. After struggling to get him to come back to work for months we agreed that this mistake was fine as long as he finished the rest of the work. We had paid him nearly in full except final payment because I noticed the stairs were shaking and I asked him to fix it. Sam told me that I would have to pay additional money to fix the shaking stairs which I did not agree to. I told Sam that he should cover the costs himself and in turn he emailed me threatening to put a lien on my house if I did not make the final payment. I asked him to wait till final inspection and then I would make the final payment because I was sure inspection would fail. The inspection did fail because of several crucial mistakes such as making the landing incorrectly and either having too much space between treads or too little space between each tread compared to the acceptable standard. Sam Alviar the owner will not return our calls or emails for months now. He is a fraud who steals people’s money. Do not work with him unless you want someone to steal your money.

After reading all these good reviews here, I referred Alviar to my client for a curved staircase on Gamba Drive, Richmond BC. Sam Alvair is the main contact person, unfornuntaley, they never came back to finish their job since the begining of this year. The scrolls at the end of the railing are missing and Sam has promised to get the right parts and finish the staircase. He never came back to finish the job despite my client paid him in full. The client has been trying to reach Sam but he never picked up his home. His phone number Sensitive Information Hidden doesn't even work anymore . Whoever is reading this comment, please avoid Sam Aviar and his company and never trust the Houzz reviews.

Recently hired Sam to update a railing in my home. I was impressed right from our initial first meeting all the way through to the completed install. Sam was a pleasure to deal with, offered his own feedback on my project (ideas i hadn't thought of myself) and the final product turned out beautiful! Would definitely recommend Sam and Alviar and will use again in the future.

I cannot recommend these guys enough. I hired them to build safe and durable custom pieces of gym equipment for our preschool gym (ramps, ladders, ball pit, etc). The quality of their work was exceptional- what was intended as merely functional has become a focal point in our gym that our clients consistently compliment us on. The process (especially the 3D drawings that come with the quote) was simple, accurate and fast. The quote they gave us was precise and the project stayed on budget. They were also unbelievably flexible with installation- working around our crazy operating hours. I will definitely hire these guys again for any woodworking we need.

Alviar Woodworking did the cabinets for my kitchen. Sam personally came out and made things extremely easy for me. There are a lot of options when it comes to kitchens and Sam helped me go through all my options and pick the best one. It made re-doing our kitchen easy. They were also extremely flexible. When we demo'd my existing kitchen there were a few problems that arose as it was an older kitchen, and Sam found solutions to those problems immediately. He took all the stress out of my hands. The final product was a beautiful kitchen that is exactly what I wanted.

Sam and his crew were professional, efficient and positive individuals to work with. They were patient with our indecision on how to renovate our stairs, offered suggestions and picture ideas to assist. Once the project started, they began and completed the project in a timely manner. We were very happy with the finished product and would recommend Alviar construction to new clients.

We were looking for a trade that was able to create a railing for our newly renovated house for a year. We got estimates from several people and didn’t really like their design and suggestions. It was almost a year when we found Sam. He made several suggestions and recommendations to some of our concerns with our space and design. Although it was pricey, we really liked the suggestions and expertise Sam had shown us and signed with him. Our glass-wood railing project was done in a very timely manner (2 weeks). The whole railing was hand-stained (the stain is amazing) and finished to match the colour of our flooring. Where we forgo with the glass railing, we placed vertical wood poles so to create more space but still added safety to the stair case. Overall, we were really impressed (and so are our friends and family) with the craftsmanship and beauty of the glass-wood railing project. It truly fits the mid-century contemporary feel of the house. Thanks Sam!!

It's my first time doing whole house renovation. I contact Sam and show him the picture we found online which I want my stairs to look like. That's all we did!!! He gave us a reasonable quote. Both meeting and installation are on time. The project is within budget too. The finish work is exactly what we want and it looks awesome. He also cleans up everything after which I think it's important for a contractor.

First time using Sam and I appreciated his honesty and work ethic. We built a custom home in White Rock and Sam provided the white oak 2" thick treads for the floating steel staircase as well as the wood for the steps to the basement. The 20' high stone living room fireplace had several shelves that we framed and Sam installed white oak material onto these which look incredible. All in all very happy with the quality of work, communication and the genuine passion he has for his trade. I would not hesitate recommending him for custom woodwork.

I hired SA Woodworking to replace a stair railing in my condo loft. The project involved a consultation to review options, make a plan, and schedule the work. The project was completed in one day. The work was done with a minimum of disruption. They efficiently completed everything to my satisfaction and the finished product was exactly what I wanted. These projects often don't go so well. Sam's work is first-rate. The handrails he built in my old-home renovation are really impressive. They are visible from every angle in the open-plan kitchen/living room and they really complete the room. It was a challenging job because the house is old and nothing is square, but the handrails look great. Sam is pleasant and really easy to get along with. I'd hire him again any time!

Sam built a fireplace surround for us. Design was as ordered, but install did not quite fit. Over the year, the surround has developed a noticeable cracked. We contacted Sam immediately and had absolutely no response. Looks like his stairway work is great. Would not recommend otherwise.

Sam is very accomplished at working with wood and this was demonstrated when he and his co-worker fashioned for us a very attractive barrier railing with spindles and a stair railing. He also refinished a piano bench and we were most pleased with its appearance. Sam is an extraordinarily friendly individual with impeccable manners and patiently answered all of our questions. Sam recently replaced my interior stair railing. I had a certain look in mind that did not match my budget. Sam was excellent at making suggestions in line with my budget that still achieved the look I was going for. I was concerned about safety, as I've got young kids, so Sam completed the entire job in a single day. I am beyond thrilled with Sam's work and professionalism. Sam came and installed wood railings for 2 sets of our stairs. We were very happy with the end results, the railings look great. I would recommend Sam for future work.

S A Woodworking refinished the oak rails (upper and bottom) on a large staircase in our entryway. This included: removing old rails, sanding, restaining, re-installing. They also put up a temporary rail (for safety reasons) due to the size of the staircase. I was very pleased with the job. Staircase looks amazing. It was done as they said, on budget and on time. I did receive quotes from a number of companies and by far SA Woodworking was the most comprehensive and they showed up when they said they would and worked with me on what I was trying to achieve (I didn't want to refinish the posts or replace the spindles which most companies pushed for me to do, SA Woodworking did not, I also had some oak trim which were on the wall which outlined the staircase - these were refinished as well and it was a little tricky lining them back up - SA didn't seemed concerned about it but most of the other contractors gave me a big line on replacing at a much higher cost to ensure they were level - SA didn't think it would be a problem, it wasn't and that had a huge impact on the cost). Made me feel that they were willing to work with me, do a great job and not take advantage of us. On time, on budget, great job with the refinish, no pressure from them, good communicators and I'm happy! They even left the leftover stain as I had a floor plate in another part of the house I wanted to refinish myself so they offered it to ensure it would match. I would recommend them and if I was refinishing anything else they would be the only people I would call.

This was a renovation project of an existing stairwell. It involved the removal of pony walls which were replaced with wooden handrails, glass and stainless steel posts. It also included converting the carpeted stairs to hardwood to match an existing hardwood floor. S A Woodworking did an incredible job, working to tight professional tolerances, on time and on budget. We are very happy with the final product. It looks amazing.

I used Sam to install Engineered flooring on our stairs as well add a oak railing system. He did a wonderful job with the preparation and installation, he was extremely responsive and timely, and the resulting work looks absolutely fantastic. Sam had a keen eye on all the details and as a home renovator myself and very picky on quality, I was blown away with the finished product. He did an amazing job matching the stain on the nosing and railing to the pre-finished engineered flooring and the finish work was exact and clean.
