Terrance has completed a number of projects for us in the past year. We kept going back to him because the quality of his work exceeds expectations. We would start out with rough concepts and give him our ideas. He would come back with original thoughts and multiple variations on the concept for us to think through together. He was very open to new ideas along the way and cleverly worked out problems. With each step of the process, I could tell that he put a great amount of thought into both the small, intricate details and how the entire piece would fit into the rest of the room. He creates masterpieces and will not settle for less. He has great respect for wood and what it can do for a home. We cannot recommend him more highly.

I worked with Portland Shoji Screen on a project for one of my clients. What impressed me most about Terrance is his ability to take both the designer's and homeowners' concerns into account when designing the perfect screen. We ended up using screens as a window covering rather than room separator. This ingenious use of a shoji screen was only made better by the quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. A year ago we downsized to a condominium in southwest Portland, rehired a contracting company here in Portland that we had successfully used before, hired a “designer” we had never used before and . . . started a pretty large reconstruction on our unit. The work went well – the contractors were very good but I didn’t want this home to be a carbon-copy of the home we had before – the designer just wasn’t picking up on the “feeling” I wanted, the contractors were frustrated with my “ums” and “buts” -- In frustration, we turned to the Portland Telephone Book – and to Google – and found GOLD!! We found the Portland Shoji Screen Company – a small, hard-to-find one man company where we could see and touch such beautiful wooden slabs being created into absolutely stunning shoji doors. We found this young, soft-spoken artist who could, and did, create the feeling were wanted for our home. We found TERRANCE MALONEY!! Working with Terrance was a highlight for us. He is so conscientious we even had to tell him to ease up on himself. Terrance had ideas that the contractor and designer were unable to see – he understood our taste, he understood the mechanics and carpentering that we needed – and he certainly knew the how-to-do!! Words are inadequate to describe the fine quality of craftsmanship exhibited in the the design and execution of our three shoji closet doors. The installation and framing are tight and seamless. The integration of the project into our home make it seem as though the doors have always been there. A deep respect for the materials and the enhancement of the best features of the wood make this a highlight of the room and a true work of art.
