Barakkath Trading Pte Ltd (SGFrames) damaged my digital art print and then refused to compensate me properly for the damage, or even pay for a replacement. This is truly unacceptable and I am now in the process of escalating this to the Consumer’s Association of Singapore. I urge anyone looking at using this store to very carefully consider the circumstances into which you are putting your precious art.
Details:
On Saturday, 21 July 2018, I brought my print to the store for framing. I was told that if I didn’t let them mount the print, it would become crumpled and wavy within the frame. Believing this to be their professional opinion, I agreed.
On Thursday, 26 July 2018, I collected the print. When I got home, I realised that the store had damaged my print severely in the mounting process, leaving dirt and water stains all over the print. The frame was also warped, curved both at the top and bottom. Consulting an art restoration service, I was told that the damage to my print would cost S$1,600 to fix.
On Sunday, 29 July 2018, I returned to meet with the owner. Repeatedly, he insisted that my print, worth €225 (S$357.68) and hand-carried back from Europe, was cheaply and poorly printed, and refused to take responsibility for the damage done by his staff. He refused to budge from his S$100 compensation offer, adding that he would “add a little bit more”, then told me to go ahead and speak to CASE.
