Detroit Tile Company - Maker & Purveyor

I hired Kelly to design and make the tile for my bathroom remodel. I built a mission style vanity and storage cabinet and just could not decide on a tile to complement the cabinetry. She helped me select a pattern and color pallet that worked nicely with my concept. All of the tile she supplied were well made and consistent, laid up nicely, and looks GREAT! I highly recommend her.

Dan Davis Design worked with Potawatomi Tile for a custom color and design for a new fireplace for one of our clients. They were not only talented and professional, but they went above and beyond on every detail. We had the tiles cut by our installer for a very intricate design, and then Potawatomi reglazed the edges of the cut tiles for a seamless look. The end result was flawless. Potawatomi even met on site to go over measurements and discussions with our installer to help finalize the trim pieces before they were made. Cant recommend them highly enough.

As accent tiles for a master bath shower, I sought the lustrous matte glazes of the sort that Pewabic Pottery in Detroit is known for, but I wanted to work more closely with an artist -- I mean, how many do-overs of our master bath do I get in one lifetime? (Husband says this is it.) Two other reasons I chose Potawatomi: the palette of glazes and the originality of the artist's decorative tiles (which I didn't use but very much liked) and of the architectural moldings, which I did use. A couple things I know about tile-making are that it's very much an organic product, and that surprises (good and not-so-good) can happen in the kiln. Owner and lead designer Kelly Schwanitz went through several iterations to get the exact blue-green shade that matched her glaze sample and my expectations. Getting it right was like a quest for her, and I loved being part of it. One more thing: For the moldings, she anticipated perfectly the sizes that would be needed for the trapezoid-shaped and for blending with the field tiles and provided numerous extra tiles in case the actual fit was different.
