With offices in both Calgary and Vancouver, we work with both homeowners and home builders throughout the building design and planning process. As with most design firms, our mandate is always to deliver an amazing custom home design that the client loves. But we feel the pre-construction process is much more than that. We take pride in leading our homeowner clients through the entire pre-construction and planning process as their trusted advisor. Over the past 10 years, we have developed comprehensive processes within our firm to ensure that we address the common failures in building a custom home, protect our client's investment, and most importantly that our clientele has an AMAZING custom home design and build experience. We pride ourselves in understanding how to design within a client's budget. We practice "ego-free" design - design revolves around our clients... not our egos. We take accountability for our client's construction start date. We relentlessly pursue a flawless set of construction documents - it protects our client's investment. We hired Phase One to design our dream home in Calgary. After close to a year with less than satisfactory communication and progress WE were fired as clients. We were not even given the respect of the terms outlined in our contract. We were left high and dry and #PhaseOne refused to refund our deposit. No completed project, no help or referrals, no usable plans, and they kept our deposit. No accountability, no respect and it seems as though they would prefer to spend money on a long drawn out legal battle, than be accountable and refund our deposit. The integrity and ethics of the profession do not seem to apply to Phase One. We thought we hired a professional.

We hired Phase One for the design of our Calgary dream home in July, 2013. After almost a year of communication challenges and little progress, Phase One abruptly terminated our contract in June, 2014 and did not refund our deposit. I am a business owner myself so I understand that personality fits or workloads may not allow for a project to be completed but I would not charge for a contract that I chose not to complete. #phaseonedesign #phase1design #yycluxuryhome #yycnewhomedesign #houzz

My husband and I first used Phase One Design to redesign our downtown condo. We knew the elements we wanted included in the kitchen but had no idea how to fit this large wish list into the redesign. Kathy and her team included all of our wishes into a layout that we would never have come up with on our own. It was my dream kitchen. They defined all of the area with innovative ceiling details, we loved it. When we decided to move from the condo to an inner-city home we knew that Kathy's team would be able to recreate this perfection in our new home. During our selection of a home we had Kathy in to view the home that we were going to make an offer on, to get her opinion on what could be done. She was in complete agreement that she could make this chopped up space feel open and spacious, just like our condo. Again she did exactly what she said she would do and the plans are great. They worked with us and an engineer to ensure that the building permit would be approved with no problem as well, since they know all of the requirements. Once we finish the renovation it will again be our dream space.

We've been working with Kathy and her team at Phase One for some time now and they have been amazing to deal with. They are willing to go the extra mile to accomadate their clients, and are great at working to to get what we want in terms of lifestyle while keeping in mind what the budget is. The only reason that we've given them a 4/5 is because we took a break from building our house and now we are making changes to the plans and we have not completed the project yet. We'll write another review when we show them all the new changes we want to add and complete the work.

We have completed a couple of multi-family projects as well as a luxury single family project with Phase One Design, and they never fail to deliver. We worked with phase one design for the custom build of our home. All the staff at phase one were phenomenal in designing exactly what we wanted and really helped us to design a home that was functional and beautiful to our needs. We ran into some issues with our initial builder and they worked with us and supported us through it all. They handle the entire process through permitting, making it nearly stress free for us. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have a home designed.

I have been involved in 5 different builds. Kathy definitely stands out as a superstar in the crowd of great, highly skilled, and ethical people I have encountered. Kathy's high energy level and enthusiasm generate a great deal of synergy and helps you maintain the high level of energy required in order to power through a build. Highly skilled, ethusiatic and helpful are the three words I would use to describe Kathy.
