I first hired Persnickety Interiors in 1998 to help me decorate a mid-century Ranch style house that my husband and I had recently purchased. We had moved from a much smaller cottage style home and needed more furniture, window treatments, accessories and lots of lamps due to a lack of overhead lighting. I also wanted our Ranch style home to have the same quaint and cozy feel of our previous cottage.
I scheduled an in-home consultation with Sue Garland ( she had been highly recommended by a good friend with excellent taste!) and I immediately felt very comfortable with her. She was professional, knowledgeable and obviously quite experienced, but at the same time really nice and down-to-earth and not at all "pushy" or arrogant, which is what I liked best about her! Even though we did not have a huge decorating budget, she never made me feel that I was wasting her time or that I was not as important as her much wealthier clients. She is really a great listener and was able to translate my ideas into exactly what I wanted. I could not have been happier with the final results and could never have created such a warm, welcoming, and absolutely adorable home without Sue's help!
Since that time, Sue has also been a huge help to us re-modeling and decorating a home on Fripp Island, SC as well as helping my brother with his small beach cottage there and also assisting my mother when she decided to build a smaller home for herself near Columbia, SC after my father passed away. She gladly helped us all choose interior and exterior paint colors, hardwood flooring, cabinetry, light fixtures, hardware and just about everything else...including furniture, window treatments, and accessories.
Our home on Fripp Island, which overlooks a lagoon and is surrounded by palm trees, has a very appropriate tropical look, but WITHOUT being too "Tommy Bahama". My brother's cottage, which is near the beach, has a casual, comfortable, coastal feel, while my mother's new home is decorated in a French Country style. Each home is unique to our very different tastes and completely different in design, yet Sue had no problem working with each one of us and giving us exactly what we wanted. I seriously doubt that there is any project, big or small, regardless of design preference, that she could not handle!
I must say that Sue has an excellent eye for color and I would never consider painting anything without consulting her. She is also an expert with fabrics and patterns. Custom bedding and window treatments are a particular specialty of hers!
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Sue and shopping at Persnickity Interiors over the past 17 years. It is so nice to be able to drop by the shop just to talk or look at all the lovely and unique items in stock without ever feeling rushed or pressured to buy anything....although I must admit that I usually find something wonderful that I simply have to have!
As much as I have enjoyed living in the the homes Sue has helped to decorate, I can honestly say that I have enjoyed our friendship even more. She truly is a genuinely nice person and an absolute pleasure to work with! I simply can not say enough good things about her and her designing talent. She is incredibly gifted and I do not hesitate to give her the highest recommendation possible! I only wish that I could add more stars!!!
