Paramount Building Solutions is a residential and light commercial general building company specializing in all phases of home remodeling and home building. Our goal with each job is to take proper responsibility for the outcome of your project so that not only is the final product of the highest quality, but the customer experience is also an exceptional one. We consistently meet this standard by implementing a high level of skill and project management that was built on a foundation of formal education and professional experience. Paramount Building Solutions is owned and operated by Carlos and Shaelyn Plascencia. Carlos is a second-generation builder, having first been exposed to craftsmanship at an early age helping his family build homes in Mexico. He then served his apprenticeship in Santa Cruz under local, reputable builders. While doing so he has obtained numerous Construction and Energy management certificates, including Construction Project and Business Management, Building Performance Energy Management, and Construction Building Codes, along with being proficient in AutoCAD Drafting and Design. You can expect the upmost level of professionalism, skill and project execution. Shaelyn is a Santa Cruz native and began working in the lumber industry in high school, gaining familiarity with all the parts and pieces that make up a home. She has since gained formal experience by obtaining numerous certificates from Cabrillo College's Construction Management Program, while also working as an Assistant Project Manager with a successful Design + Build firm helping oversee the construction of complex high-end homes. Together we aim to provide our clients with an unprecedented construction experience with long-lasting results.

Carlos has completed garage and siding projects for me and I've been very happy with the results. Carlos's communication is excellent, and is articulate, patient, and works with you to achieve your desired outcome. Carlos and staff are very punctual and maintain a clean and well-organized job site. I highly recommend Carlos and look forward to future projects.

Multiple Projects

Carlos Plascencia has sub contracted me as the roofer on several projects over the years. He is the standard of a professional contractor. I admire his organization, attention to detail and incredible work ethic. He is incredibly knowledgeable and I have been able to use him as a resource when I have had general construction questions outside of my small roofing wheelhouse. Mr. Plascencia has always been immediate in payment for our work and that is a rarity in the world of working for general contractors. Lastly, I have had the opportunity to connect with many of his clients and they have always raved about what an awesome contractor he has been to work with and how pleased they are with his work. You want to hire Carlos and Paramount Building Solutions!! Carlos and his team at Paramount are the best contractors we have known. We know a lot of people in the trades as one of us works in the trades. What makes Carlos so outstanding? He and his crew always arrive 5-10 minutes early and get set up. He listens and takes notes about what it is you are asking him to do. He asks questions that help you clarify what it is you want. He communicates with us almost every day about what was accomplished and plans for the next day. His work is precise, beautiful, and neat. He has extremely high standards. Carlos himself is a highly skilled finish carpenter as well as the general contractor. The finish trim he built for all of our new windows is absolutely beautiful! If there is a tricky problem to solve, Carlos has a wealth of knowledge and ideas for solving the problem. His goal is always to come in on time and under budget, which he is often able to do. His high standards for on-time, neat, efficient work carry over to the sub contractors he hires. They have been of the highest quality. He is meticulous about details. Everything from timing of the project to labeling where wood trim goes to cleaning up each day is done with professionalism and care. He is personable, respectful, thoughtful of how the work he is doing will affect you, and open to discussing the project every step of the way. We can't say enough good about Carlos, his crew and his subcontractors. We have high expectations for what a good contractor should do. Carlos has exceeded all of our expectations. Hire him before he gets so well known and popular that you'll have to wait a year to get on his schedule!! You will be very pleased that you did.

Carlos and his team are what you hope for/dream of in a general contractor. He is on time, professional, a perfectionist, responsive and responsible. Carlos doesn't just work with his crew he is working right beside them. He thoroughly checks his sub-contractors work to make sure they meet his exacting standards. He will offer his opinions for design. They treat your home with respect from shoe covers, tarps and protecting areas that they are not working on. Carlos puts quality of work over just getting the job done. He doesn't settle for mediocre. His follow up and follow through is incredible: he keeps you informed with what to expect through the whole process. We could not be more pleased and have already referred him to others.

We just finished our second project with Paramount and couldn’t be more thrilled. Owner Carlos Plascencia is the most responsive and punctual contractor we’ve ever worked with, and you clearly see the pride he takes in his work. The most recent project was our biggest yet (a basement conversion) and Carlos executed wonderfully. His crew were always early, super polite and made sure to clean up after each day. Carlos stayed on top of budget, proactively providing updates as we progressed through the project. He understood exactly what we wanted and he delivered better than we had originally planned with thoughtful suggestions and ideas (that saved money!). When we needed to rebuild the second story decks of our seaside home in La Selva Beach, Carlos was the number one referral of our life-long friend and former builder of high-end homes on the Central Coast and Peninsula. Coming from the fields of real estate development and design ourselves, we knew there would be challenges managing costs and still getting the look we wanted. So, it was enormously comforting and satisfying to see Carlos bring his problem-solving skills and craftsmanship to meet those challenges at every step in the process: from surgically exposing and replacing decayed sections of the underlying structure, to collaborating with our architect to source various materials and price design options, to investing the needed time and care to rebuild the decks as though they were his own. When you meet Carlos, you quickly learn that he’s significantly more mature and wiser than his age. He impresses you with his passion for his work, his critical thinking, and his thoughtfulness in the questions he asks and the ways in which he approaches problems. He’s thorough in planning and budgeting, meticulous in execution and clean-up, and reliable when it comes to communicating and meeting schedules. Paramount Building Solutions removed my old fence and built a new redwood privacy fence on two sides of my property. Carlos is an excellent craftsman with a keen attention to detail. He was helpful and patient as we discussed the design of the fence. He did research on materials and drawings of potential designs. He and his crew were easy to work with and good at communicating when questions arose. The final result is a fence that complements my house and will last a long time. I love it!

His professionalism was outstanding. He has the skills and he has an attention to detail that made for a complete success on our remodel. The job included replacing an exterior wall, installing windows, and replacing interior lighting. At that time he also set up a sump pump that helped us stay dry under the house during the massive storms that would have otherwise caused untold damage. Carlos is also very easy to communicate with and always kept us updated so we worked very well together .

Very happy with the work Carlos performed at our coastal home. He spent 3 hours measuring, photographing and examining the repairs. (As opposed to 2 other contractors - one refused the job & the other spent 15 minutes walking around. I then had to chase him down for a bid that was labor only) Carlos is precise, attention to detail, clean, courteous, problem solving and patient. As with every renovation, issues came up and he was very good with explaining the solutions and recommendations as well as change orders when needed. Carlos did a photo journal daily documenting the work performed. We were very involved in the progress made daily. He took the extra steps to facilitate the information required to comply with the association regulations and available to speak directly to them. We plan to retain his services when we begin work on the interior. I am confident anyone would extremely satisfied with his work. I highly recommend his services. I’m sure you will be extremely satisfied.

Paramount designed and built cement stairs on our hillside and a new wooden staircase to our old tree house. They also installed a sink in our garage, and other small jobs. Projects were completed on time, on budget, and with professionalism and courtesy. He communicates effectively and is extremely conscientious - not happy until the job is done right. We have recommended him to others.

The team @ Paramount has done a couple major projects for me over the years and I refuse to use anyone else, especially after how unprofessional and lazy the rest of the market has gotten through Covid. In a world where it seems like every contractor is trying to squeeze you for money or take shortcuts and provide subpar work, Paramount is really there to make sure you get the best product for the best price. They'll make sure you're using the right materials, working towards the right goals, and designing the right finished product. They don't cut corners and their cost is super transparent. Building things is expensive in today's world, and that's the truth regardless of where you go, but it's also smooth, easy, and professional with Paramount. For some detail on the projects - they rebuilt my 240 sq/ft deck with trex masterfully (even the OGs in my neighborhood were complimenting the work they did) to help restore a home I own that was built in 1888, and they built a 200ft 4ft tall redwood fence at my property in the mountains, where I have truck drivers who refuse to deliver to my house...Paramount wasn't scared. This company is the real deal.

Paramount building solutions has done multiple jobs at our house in the last year. We have had the company build us a 10x12 shed on our property and a decorative accent wall in our living room. They also built us a 12x20 deck with a pergola along with doing a shiplap accent ceiling in our kitchen. Carlos and his team showed excellence in their workmanship. They built a 12 x 16 cottage for my daughter, her husband and their 8 month old when they come to visit. Carlos spent a lot of time with me prior to the project, consulting, asking valuable questions, and giving input on the design. Neighbors tell me what a superb job my contractor has done and we all agree. Carlos was always on time, had excellent rapport with his staff, promptly replied to messages and phone calls and when I was away for the month on a trip, during the building phase, Carlos took photos and/or videos of the various stages of construction and sent them to me so that I could feel a part of the process. I had complete faith in his competence and thoroughness based on the several meetings we had before the project started. We recommend Carlos and his team to anyone who is interested in quality construction.

From his bids and contracts to being on time and on budget and arriving when he says he'll be there, our experience was great.
