We hired Mark to design a gut renovation and expansion of a 120 yr old house. Our desire was to keep the original character of the house from “the outside” while constructing a fully modernized house “on the inside”. The design process was very collaborative. Given the complexities of this project in an old house, there were extensive pre-existing conditions and creative problem solving. We went through several design iterations and I can’t stress how much Mark LISTENED and RESPONDED to our various comments. Even when our suggestions were not practical, Mark designed alternatives that were. Mark’s interactive design process (and end result) gets him a 5-star rating. But it didn’t end there. Throughout the construction process, Mark was engaged and took a high level of interest in the successful completion of our house. He was always responsive to issues we encountered during construction and was an integral part of the problem solving. There were countless times where he would visit the site the SAME DAY an issue arose. There were also countless times where he would visit the site VOLUNTARILY to ensure the project was proceeding in accordance with the drawings. Mark’s involvement in the project during construction gets its own 5-star rating. Mark’s design and successful completion of our project exceeded our expectations and we recommend him without hesitation.

Mark at FitzWilliam Architects has made our dream home come to reality without any of the negatives that you often hear of as people begin this process. Mark was incredibly knowledgeable, yet friendly. He was concise and responsive without being pushy or taking over with his image. The process was much more enjoyable and the output far exceeded any image we originally had. As someone who hadn't done this before, Mark made the process easy to understand, kept us on track, helped us value engineer to understand cost implications on the final product. We interviewed a few different architects but chose FitzWilliam Architects and are so happy we did! Mark was incredible to work with -- he nailed our exterior plans with his initial set of drawings and created our dream home! Before we chose FitzWilliam Architects we interviewed several firms, Fitzwilliam was a great fit for us. We couldn't have asked for a better experience - design, knowledge, and quality of the plans are second to none. We received a great floor plan and design that exceeded our expectations, was in line with our project budget, and Mark is still fully engaged as we go through the actual build. We are doing a complete gut of a main floor and basement, along with adding a second story, and it's clear that a significant amount of time went into the design to make all aspects flow together. From window design & layout down to lighting arrangement and work with the structural engineer, Mark has a gift for designing a beautiful home. Hopefully we stay in our home for several years, but FitzWilliam Architects will be our first call if we have another remodel or new home build in the future.

Working with Fitzwilliam Architects was great and I love my remodeled house. Mark quickly understood what I was looking for in my remodel, both in functional layout as well as the aesthetic style. He came up with a great design quickly and was easy to work with as we finetuned the plans. The project budget ended up higher than we had planned. However, the end result is worth it.

Mark is amazing! We are adding a second story to our Denver bungalow as well as an addition, remodel, and new garage with apartment above. Working with Mark was so much fun. From our first meeting, he listens to every detail you want included in your project and does it. I was very comfortable asking him to make changes during the design phase and Mark offered great solutions and ideas as well. We wanted to keep the charm of the craftsman style and he accomplished that as well as bringing in modern elements to the design. Mark goes above and beyond what an architect should do. His plans are far more detailed so meetings with our contractor went smooth and fast. I also felt stress free when we submitted them to the city for approval. Mark also kept me, a pregnant mother with a toddler, on schedule and organized. He worked around my schedule, came to me, and made it very stress free. Even though our drawings are finished, Mark is still very involved in the processes. He has an excellent relationship with our contractor and is available anytime to offer his expertise. We highly recommend working with Fitzwilliam Architects because of his professionalism, hard work, and excellent architectural drawings.

Thanks to FitzWilliam Architects for the professional expertise and assistance in my recent remodel. Mark FitzWilliam provided a comprehensive architectural plan for my remodel project – the level of detail was extremely helpful to me as the homeowner, particularly in establishing expectations for my general contractor. Mark listened to my initial ideas for the project, and added so much character to the design, aligning the new construction details with the 1938 vintage aspects of my home, so that the new blends with and just flows from the old. Mark was super patient with me during my first major remodel, walking me through the various iterations of the plan, and helping me understand the bids I received during both (!) requests for bid processes. Mark had a presence during construction to help ensure it was consistent with the architectural drawings, and he promptly communicated with me any significant deviations from the plan. He provided input/solutions on several field-based issues, in part for unknowns that arose as a result of remodeling a 1938 home. If I ever take on a remodel project again, I will absolutely work again with Mark.
