My name is Stephen McLaren. I started my apprenticeship with Hunter & Clark Ltd in 1990 and attended Glasgow College of Building and Printing gaining an SVQ level 3 (PDA level 6) stonemasonry certificate and a (PDA level 7) Advanced stonemasonry certificate. Over the last 20 plus years I have worked with several companies in the Glasgow area and beyond. Not forgetting working alongside some of the most talented masons in the UK, some of which are sadly no longer with us today. However it is through these men that the secrets of this trade live and are passed from mason to mason down the years. I specialise in the conservation and restoration of historic buildings, monuments and sculptures and the carving and building of new ones. In my time as a stonemason I have worked on numerous high profile projects; Kelvingrove Art Galleries, Buchanan Galleries Shopping Centre, George Square Post Office re-development, Scottish Parliament Building (Edinburgh), Lamlash Parish Church (Isle of Arran), Lews' Castle (Stornoway, Isle of Lewis), Martyrs' Monument (St Andrew's) and Almeezan Islamic School. McLaren Stone Ltd has completed work for McLaughlin Construction, City Gate Construction, Emtec Group, Glasgow Piping Centre Association, The High School of Glasgow, Sea Mill Hydro as well as many more. I pride myself on very high quality craftsmanship and being able to complete projects within the contracted time frame.
