We purchased our duplex in a brand new condo in Park Slope knowing that we wanted to further customize our home. We hired Leo and his team to help take our ideas and transform them into a truly unique space. We were really pleased that Sguera Architecture quickly understood our tastes and goals and completed the design process in record time. Once we started construction, we found that the condo developer had cut many corners. Leo expertly managed the multitude of issues as they unfolded, including the fire department and other agencies that became involved, keeping the project moving forward. Leo was also very hands-on and always available by phone. He ultimately took on way more than he needed to after the untimely death of our general contractor. We realize that he could have cut and run as this additional work was not under his purview but he stayed the course with us and guided us through. We are very grateful to him for that. He is a consummate professional with true integrity.

Leo achieved unanimous approval at the Landmark Preservation Commission and handled the community board in record time. After buying a Landmark carriage house in Clinton Hill I needed assistance from an architect to rebuild the entire Landmark façade. Leo was a one-stop shop and he did an amazing job. He designed the project and requisite details, filed with Landmarks and the Department of Buildings and even managed the entire contractor hiring process through completion of construction. He is a pleasure to work with and I was very pleased with the outcome.

Leo’s precision, creativity, and extensive knowledge of construction is what truly pulled this project together and allowed it to stay on budget even though we had lofty goals and a limited budget. We could not be happier with Leo’s design in the end. Our kitchen was facing the rear of our home overlooking the commercial property behind us. Leo and his team were able to show us how the entire space could be flipped and not break the budget. Ultimately he recreated the whole space transforming it into a loft-like oasis of calm facing a quiet and tree-lined residential block. His plan to include longer windows below the existing lintels allowed much more light to enter our corner lot building and yet did not require new structural work. Another challenge we faced regarding the commercial property at the rear was our garden area. Sguera Architecture replaced a bi-level concrete rear yard with one larger level covered with beige gravel and wrapped by custom wood fencing. This created privacy and a proper space to dine, sunbathe, and have cocktails outdoors. We absolutely love our home!

My husband and I were planning to renovate our newly purchased duplex garden apartment in Carrol Gardens when we found our architect, Leo Sguera. While we had many ideas, Leo advised us patiently on how to turn them into neatly detailed realities. We also ended up adding to his contract to remove a townhouse bearing wall and add a steel beam. He quickly designed and incorporated it into the project without missing a beat. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
