Our four steps to an easy Design in a Day garden design process include: 1. Using the Landscape Design in a Day kit you answer a few questions and measure your landscaping site saving time and money. 2. Our professional landscape designer reviews your site plan, and studies the landscape. 3. Together you and the landscape designer create a garden design tailored to your lifestyle and needs. 4. You can start working on updating your landscape right away. Using the provided kit, clients collect site information and create a base drawing. Before hiring Carol we were lost. We bought a house with a huge (by our standards) yard with lots of existing growth, but little cohesion and a lot of underutilized space. We knew that we couldn't afford to overhaul the entire yard all at once but we needed some semblance of a plan. Throughout this process I came to think of Carol as something of a "landscape therapist" in addition to being a skilled landscape designer. Her obvious experience, openness and curiosity immediately put me at ease, and she was committed to figuring out what would work for us specifically. Her business is called "Design in a Day," but she put a significant amount of time into multiple phone calls with us prior to her visit, and it eases my mind knowing that I could call or email her with follow-up questions. As for the plan itself, it's safe to say that we now have solutions to various puzzles that I NEVER would have thought of on my own. The detailed garden plan, including a full plant list and information about where to source both plants and landscaping materials is incredibly helpful. I now feel that we have a plan that we can spend the remainder of our time in this house developing, and that idea is exciting instead of overwhelming. I was initially concerned that a landscape design service wouldn't be suited to our somewhat modest budget and slow timeline, but now I'm glad that we didn't wait a minute longer to contact Carol. Get her before she's all booked up!

We hired Carol to help us figure out what we could do to complete our landscape and had a list of needs including plants that weren't thriving, areas needing more terracing, and privacy needs. She came to the house on a rainy day in early March and was still able to see the yard as if it were in full vigor. She left us with a drawing of what to put where, a list of plants, and names for both a contractor for the terracing and an arborist to help with pruning. We have been following her list explicitly and hired both the contractor and the arborist with great results. Little by little we have been adding the plants off the list and Carol has been available by text/ email to help us make choices even when we are at the nursery! Thanks Carol! We look forward to working with you again as needed once the current changes are made.

Thanks. We had fun blending our ideas. The new walkway location creates opportunities for placing inviting full season color plantings. it also provides easy access for family and guests parked in the street. Now we have a modern courtyard feel to the entry. Exciting!

I have been working with Carol for about 20 years now and absolutely love doing so! She designed my garden for my new home in meticulous detail and was there to answer all of my questions and I worked the wonders that she had recommended. During the design process, one particular step that I appreciated was that she listened carefully to what I cared about in the way of design, plants and their future needs. When I moved into a new home recently, Design in a Day was my need and there she was working her magic again! Currently, this project is partially completed due to the season. Do give her a try. Carol Lindsay of Landscape Design in a Day is a wonderful designer who collaborates well with her clients to realize their dreams. I hired Carol to create a design for my front yard and driveway replacement and to check in and work with the contractors during the installation process. Carol recommended Donna Burdick’s company D and J Landscape Contracting to implement the plan and I’m glad I chose them as well. Donna and Carol have worked together for years and speak a common language which made for a seamless experience. This was a big project for me and I felt much taken care of throughout the design and installation. Carol is very flexible and can work with wishes of any level of detail. I had mostly vague, general ideas and preferences and she was able to take those and come up with something that I loved as soon as I saw the first rough layout. I highly recommend Carol for any project.

I first met with Carol 2 years ago. I desperately needed help transforming my backyard. I found Landscape Design in a Day doing an internet search and I was drawn to her concept of choosing discreet bundles of time (a couple hours, 1/2 a day, full day). This allowed me to know exactly what I was spending on design services. Not really knowing what a design company would charge had in the past held me back from moving forward. I have met with Carol 2 or 3 times and the result was exactly what I had in mind with all of the mistakes I would have made weeded out. Carol was really fun to work with. She asks lots of questions, is really thoughtful about the space and its function, has a great sense of flow and energy in the space and just plain has a good eye. She can take what the client wants fundamentally and make it work in a practical sense. She is knowledgeable about all aspects of landscape design including the hardscape aspect. It also helped that we are very similar in the plants we like so the planting plan and choosing the plants was a lot of fun. My project was done last fall and isn't quite done in that there are many spring perennials yet to plant. But I can't wait. Carol also recommended a contractor that worked out wonderfully. It is important to note that Carol's service is design only but she has contractors she works with that are familiar with her designs and execute them very well. The project $$ below reflect the entire project including the contractor. I have enjoyed very much working with Carol and look forward to a continuing relationship with her.

Carol's process is very collaborative. She asks lots of questions, requests photos of your outside space, and has a scheduled in-depth phone conversation with you -- and that's all before she ever sets foot in your yard for her Design in a Day. This allows her to learn your preferences, the challenges of the property, and gets her creative juices flowing, all before she ever meets you and creates the design for your outside space. We are thrilled with the designs she created for both our front and back yards, which were executed and installed by D and J Landscape Contractors (another highly recommended company). The yards have been transformed into welcoming, beautiful spaces that we .ppreciate everyday, whether we're looking at our new views out the windows, or enjoying dinner outside.

Thanks Patricia, I've been asked to clarify price. The Landscape Design in a Day for the front and back landscape was under $3,000. The installation of the design was considerably more. Patricia, her husband and I spent time together at the dining room table creating the landscape plan together. Its a very collaborative process and that is all part of the joy of it all. We created a new large outdoor dining patio, stone paths, detailed planting plans and more. The front landscape received a no lawn design treatment to honor and cherish the health of two large Oak trees in the parking strip that are easily 60' tall. Thank you again for the review and I look forward to seeing you in the spring of 2017.

I've worked with landscape architects and designers in the past and have had mediocre experiences. Carol's "Design-in-a-Day" process is brilliant. She is so efficient making the process accessible both from a time commitment and a financial perspective. Her process drives the results and for me that looked like a very smart design using a super small space and the resources that we had. And, Carol herself is lovely. What I enjoyed the most in working with her is that she did not push her design style or preferences at all - she listened, respected and worked with my esthetic. I think this trait is rare for designers. I would highly recommend Carol.

My garden adventures with Carol, Design In A Day, begin in 2010. Carol took my "mismatched" garden and pulled it together by incorporating a variety of plants which added interesting leaf shapes, texture, and color. The addition of stone paths and walls, art pieces, and a deck with planter boxes created a garden that blends continuity, interest, and beauty. Since a garden is an ever-changing palate, I have continued to work with Carol as my garden coach so my garden space will continue to thrive. Carol is professional, knowledgeable, and talented. She's a good listener and will collaborate with a team of experienced and creative contractors as well as resources for plants. With Carol's style of landscape design one can select from a wide menu of options- from a garden design only where the client does the work, to a design and consultation, up to supervision of the project.

When I work with an established garden, I strive to bring an experienced eye that can see exciting new possibilities with the removal of plants and features that no longer work (or missed by a mile simply because no one knew what could be.) It's hard to do this on your own. For many years some plants were wonderful and were loved. I have been hired to help and telling them a plant or some hardscape feature is great just because they love it is not earning my pay. I try to do this gently when it needs to be done.

We made so many amazing changes in our design process but I will speak of a few: This garden already had a near perfect dogwood tree. Its location was perfect but it had been damaged by the pruning of a well-intentioned "mow, blow and go" gardener. It took 3 years of light but precise pruning to correct damage and now it is the long term focal point of the back garden.

The new deck feels more like an outdoor living room and is an extension of the great room. It makes this interior room seem significantly bigger and airy. We used planters instead of railing and they bring the garden (including near year round flowering plantings) up into the view from inside. Before our design, the garden was obscured and felt cut off from the house, now it feels like the garden is part of the great room. We created a kitchen window view with plantings that look good year round and bring the Anna hummingbirds into close view in winter. This had previously been a forgotten area and wasn't anything the client had expected. It is now one of her favorite views.

Our adventures do continue and after 6 years we may revise the front foundation planting, I just got an email asking about re-working a few plants. And in a few days I will probably get another email thanking me for the bottle of wine. (Actually it was a text with a photo of her gift.) I truly appreciate testimonials.

Carol came over for a follow up appointment on a plan she had done for me 3 years earlier. The yard has been coming in nicely but I needed some more garden coaching on what I had done and then in other areas of the yard. Carol talked me thru my existing plans and then gave me some new plans for the front yard. I was very happy with the session and thankful for the knowledgeable advise for my soil problems I have. I was not expecting to get new plans for the front yard but was very happy to get them
