Kathleen Monroe Design is a multi-disciplinary studio specializing in high-end residential & commercial interior design, along with custom furniture & textile design. We love to design, we love to layer, we love color, we love to collaborate with our clients, and with our project partners!! We live to create spaces that are visually stunning, comfortable, and that fit our client’s lifestyles. Kathleen worked miracles with our house. She helped us with renovations but the most important thing she did was creating, through her use of color and our art collection, a warm and inviting home. We were strictly white wall people but Kathleen showed us a better way. Then, when we moved to an apartment, she helped us fit our house furniture into the smaller space and again by her wonderful use of colors made it just as warm and inviting as our house was. We still get compliments about how welcoming and hospitable it is. People seem at ease and sometimes they don’t want to leave. She was professional and on time, meeting deadlines. I highly recommend her.

Kathleen has a wonderful talent for working with color, esp. rich colors that elevate a room. She also is able to take existing elements and reimagine them in clever and creative ways. Kathleen is the bomb. As the homeowner there are times when we don't know what we want. Kathleen is very intuitive and can read between the lines. She understands her clients, is creative to the degree the client wants to be and is always conscious of my budget. I'm a realtor and work with many designers and am confident when I refer my clients to Kathleen!

We've used Kathleen for 3 different projects across 2 different homes and have been extremely happy with the outcome each time. In our first home she helped us design our living room and also some coloring designs and light fixtures in other areas and we ended up with fantastic results that were the perfect balance of meeting our style preferences and priorities and also pushing us outside of where we would have gone on our own, but with a great outcome. In our current home she helped us with 2 different bathroom redesigns. The first one for our children's bathroom, where she helped develop a design that was playful enough for children but that was stylish enough that it would mature as they grow. The second was our master bathroom where she helped transform a 1940s style to a contemporary, clean look that met our exact objectives. She was very patient with us both times and came with many options both creative and functional. Very happy!

Kathleen was a tremendous help to us during our major remodel. She was instrumental in helping us choose colors, cabinets and other materials. Worked closely with the contractors to ensure the materials and work was done correctly. She was always available to us and took a lot of the stress and anxiety that goes with a remodel.

I have worked as the general contractor on numerous projects that Kathleen Monroe has designed. These have included bathroom remodels, kitchen remodels, and general condo updates. My most recent collaboration with her involved the remodel of a condominium in a historic building in downtown San Francisco. We installed a new kitchen, powder room, and hardwood floors in addition to updating the dining room, bathroom, and master bedroom. Kathleen assisted the owner in the selection of the cabinets, flooring, furniture, lighting, and paint colors. She provided all drawings including everything required for pulling permits with the building department. She supervised the ordering of all materials in order to assure that everything was delivered in a timely manner. I have always been impressed with Kathleen’s excellent design sense and attention to detail. She is attentive to the owner's ideas and builds off of them by not only incorporating their thoughts but also providing fresh and creative alternative solutions for them to consider. She has an excellent grasp of color that often leads the owners to select palettes they would not originally have even considered. I highly recommend working with Kathleen Monroe Design.

Kathleen Monroe is exemplary at understanding the clients design aesthetic. She has an innate ability to weave environmental, design and budgetary needs together. She is warm, intuitive, and an amazing listener. I feel like she understands my design aesthetic better than I do myself. She has a knack for attention to details and brings to light endless potential design mistakes that most people miss. Her awareness and keen observation skills make her an exceptional designer. We had the best experience with Kathleen! We remodeled our bathrooms and curtains. Kathleen was great at helping us past major roadblocks (color indecision, patterns, tiles, and more). She really cared about our project and gave us the time we needed. Highly recommend!

Kathleen is a consummate professional and a gifted artist. We have a very small condo in San Francisco, but she designed plans and suggested furniture that made the place seem much larger, accommodated all our needs, and had a beautiful outcome. She had inventive ideas, worked within our budget, and gave us much more than we anticipated. Her service was over and above. She even assembled furniture from Crate and Barrel and supervised the installation of window treatments, so all was set up when we arrived at our new condo. I would hire her in a heartbeat for any project—large or small.

Kathleen designed my mother’s home in Seattle, top to bottom, and did a gorgeous job. My mother raves about her, and since she is based in San Francisco, my partner and I hired her to help us design our new penthouse apartment. She works really collaboratively, she came in with amazing ideas, and she helped us transform our space into our dream home. She’s amazing at what she does, she’s hilarious, she’s really balanced in terms of creativity, and she understands how to define and follow a budget. She’s fantastic!!!
