John Davies is the ultimate professional to work with. He is calm, creative and very People friendly. John interpret instructions with large amount of imagination in a very understated way, which allow the client a comfort zone to exchange ideas, express thoughts and requests changes without being intimidated to offend the “Artist”. John is a one stop shop that ultimately saves worries, time and money.

I very happily worked with John on an extensive overhaul of a large rear garden in London. John worked extremely well to maximise the return from the budget, prioritising certain elements of hard landscaping and specimen trees that he individually hand-picked for the project. John was willing to spend multiple hours working through many drafts of the planting design to reflect my feedback (probably quite an opinionated client) and appropriately challenged our ideas around the design at various intervals. John's attention to detail in ensuring the integration of the garden design into the build of a new garden studio which I was having installed at the same time went above and beyond my expectations - this was extremely important to the success of the project.

We have now constructed a number of gardens for John. John is a passionate designer with an outstandingly creative and imaginative style, his attention to detail is second to none which means that all the gardens he creates are finished to a very high standard without compromising the beauty of the aesthetics.

John is the most creative and talented landscape designer we have worked with. We wanted a modern-looking front and back garden with a custom spa, outdoor kitchen and fire pit for our newly constructed Spanish-style home in Southern California. After tiring out of listening to cookie-cutter ideas from local landscape designers, we resorted to searching online. We loved John’s portfolio on Houzz and decided to contact him, but because he is London-based, we were skeptical of how much he could do without visiting our place in person. John, however, was very enthusiastic and did not see the distance as too much of a barrier. We in-turn were very impressed with his knowledge and approach to landscape design. He studied the pictures, videos and measurements we sent to get a good visualization of the location. Initially we had hoped to get a design similar to one of his previous projects in London. Rather than take the easy route and simply modify this design to our yard, he explained how it would be incongruous with the style of our home, its surroundings and the local climate. Using mood boards with many different concepts, he helped narrow down our preferences and created a draft plan. He then put in an extraordinary number of additional hours researching drought-tolerant plants native to our region and building materials to complement our Spanish construction, all while maintaining our modern design vision and diligently meeting deadlines. After a few iterations, he gave us a very detailed landscape plan to help us get bids from local contractors. He provided guidance throughout the construction process and flew to California to supervise the planting. The finished product is an elegant balance of style, textures, and colors. Each hardscape component and planting area is a unique piece of art by itself, but is also in perfect harmony with and adds to the beauty of its surroundings. Because of John's ability to listen and understand our needs, and his creativity, passion, and eye for quality, we have a spectacular resort-like sanctuary just outside our doorstep.

John is a detail-oriented person who shows a lot of creativity with his design. He came up with ideas that were original yet fitted our vision for the garden.

The Garden Builders have contracted landscape works through John Davies Landscapes for a number of years. John's approach is methodical and accurate. The initial plans and specifications are thorough and easy to interpret, allowing accurate costs at the quotation stage so both client and contractor have a transparent starting point. Throughout the build process John and his team undertake regular visits to ensure the clients interests are cared for and to support the contractor in any way they can. At the final stages of his projects, John and his teams keen eye for detail and high levels of expectation push us as a contractor to pull out all the stops, ensuring the very best finished project for all involved, client, designer and contractor.

John was absolutely terrific to work with and we would highly recommend him. He came recommended to us and we considered a few designers however we felt from John's previous garden designs that he was most likely to give us a striking design. Despite us not having a particular design in mind John managed to pull together all the elements we asked for and absolutely capture the combination of both traditional and wild/informal that we wanted. We could not be happier with the garden he created for us and use it whenever the weather is good enough - he really did create an extra room for us! In terms of working with John, we found him incredibly responsive whenever we needed him and the process felt very collaborative, although he would always give his honest opinion on what he felt would or wouldn't work. John gave us different price options for the different elements so that we could execute the design within our budget without compromising the look of the design. John was also on hand throughout the build making sure the plan was executed to a high standard. Hortus of Blackheath were our landscape gardeners and we also couldn't be happier with the work they did. I have already recommended John to friends and family who have all been very impressed with the results at our garden.

John Davies is an imaginative and creative garden designer. He was careful and diligent in his preparation, attentive and sensitive to our requirements and clear in his ideas. The results are marvelous - a real transformation of our cottage garden, making good use of existing features but with many new and exciting areas. A beautiful and appropriate planting scehme brought to good effect. We would unhesitatingly recommend him.

We had a total house & garden renovation 2 years ago. The only part of the project that came in on time and on budget was the garden! We are very pleased with the space that John managed to create for us in a fairly small city garden. He patiently worked through our wish list & added plenty of ideas to create a lovely practical calm space for the whole family. The planting is gorgeous, varied and interesting and the design incorporates a pond that stretches right across the garden. We love the silver birch trees added at the back which give shade from the midday sun to the table under them. We use the garden so much more than we ever did. 2 years later it looks like it’s always been there.

I've had the pleasure of working with John on a couple of his projects, he's easy to work with, friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The gardens I photographed were both small urban spaces designed in a contemporary and classy style. John knows how to get the most out of a small space, creating a perfect balance of features, hard landscaping and planting without overcrowding. It's obvious that meticulous consideration is given to choosing the right quality materials, lighting and plants to compliment each other and create an atmosphere ideal for relaxing in. I would wholeheartedly recommend John Davies Landscape.

John is brilliant. His plant knowledge and design skills, coupled together make his a one stop shop. He also has very good management skills so he gets the job done. His recent awards speak for themselves. I believe he is one thing of the best in his field if you like a contemporary approach.
