The retail operation, operating out of a modest three-story former home, catered to the diverse needs of the residents and businesses of the now-historic town of Fells Point, Maryland. Founders Joseph Safier and Saul Lipnick provided their customers with virtually everything – glass, pots and pans, shopping carts, roller skates, hand tools, ladders, rope – cramming their entire inventory into every nook of the shop. A decade later, Mr. Safier assumed full ownership, painted the storefront yellow, and rebranded as Yellow Front Supply, a business that would remain a fixture for years. Beyond the changes in name and appearance, the proprietor and his son adjusted their ambition, gradually phasing out housewares and retail sales and replacing them with wholesale industrial supplies. Nearly a century and another name change later, Mill Supply Co. has evolved from neighborhood general store to large-scale commercial operation, but the core values remain unchanged. The company equips developers and managers of multi-family complexes, assisted living facilities, and government housing with an extensive variety of building materials, hardware, and maintenance supplies. They have expanded their territory beyond the greater Baltimore area to include Pennsylvania, Virginia, the District of Columbia, and further areas of Maryland.
