HEIDI SCHWEIZER, Architect

Heidi designed our custom home last year with a modern farmhouse design. The home is getting close to completion now, and we completely love it! Heidi's ideas for using space well and for design features all turned out amazing. Even more importantly, the process of working with Heidi was a pleasure. Anxious to modernize a traditional cottage near downtown Lexington we sought the help of local architect Heidi Schweizer. We had seen several of her projects in the area and were struck by the creative, imaginative spirit these spaces expressed. Our goal was to achieve a more open floor plan in our home and a more efficient use of space. We have found working with Heidi extremely satisfactory on two levels. She is a highly competent professional who is sensitive to a client's needs. She listens well and helps one realize their objectives with an eye on both flair and pragmatism. In our experience there has been no problem too petty nor too complicated for her attention. We had a vision of a small,contemporary home which fit the rural, mountainous landscape. Heidi understood it intuitively and came up with a design which exceeded our expectations, and those of everyone we know.

We have been working with Heidi for about a year, as we are building a home in the Shenandoah Valley. It’s fair to say that this project would not have gotten off the ground, or proceeded so smoothly, without her guidance, good eye, excellent taste, and vast knowledge. Heidi is a terrific architect, and also has great experience with all manner of interior and exterior details - from light fixtures to kitchen layouts to traffic flow. Because we don’t live where the house is being constructed, we have relied on Heidi to be our go-between with everyone from the builder to the building supply store. She is our on-site eyes and ears, and helps us make judgment calls from afar. In addition to all her technical skills and broad-based knowledge, Heidi is just terrific to deal with — friendly, fun, reliable, sensible. We feel luckily to be working with her.

Working with Heidi Schweizer to design and build our retirement home was an excellent experience. Heidi is creative and realistic, professional and personal alll at the same time. Heidi took our vision of what we thought our mid-century home should look like, and expanded on it, to design a truly unique home. As a problem solver she was able to clarify issues and develop options to move the project forward. Always mindful of our budget, Heidi would suggest cost saving ideas. But not at the expense of compromising the beauty, energy efficiency, and function of our home. She has a good sense of humor, but is never unkind and works as long and hard as it takes to finish the job. We would highly recommend Heidi.

Heidi worked with my husband and I as we prepared to design, and build our retirement home. She was willing to gently educate us in the nitty gritty details of designing, and building a home. We will be forever grateful for her boundless professional knowledge, compassion, and ability to work with couples who approached designing a home from different points of view.

Heidi's advice and support have helped create what I think is a marvelous house. For each design change, Heidi immediately provided drawings for the builder and remained available for consultation throughout the process. I have relied on her many times to advise me on all decisions, from kitchen cabinets to furniture layout, to interior and exterior colors and more. I trust her judgment on every detail. She commands respect from builders and suppliers, working promptly and collaboratively to make the client's vision "real."

When we put our needs, our wants, and our budget down on paper and began to interview prospective architects, most of them told us that we couldn’t have what we wanted for our budget. Heidi came back with suggestions and ideas that were outside-the-box and resulted in a space that not only perfectly fit our needs, but encompassed our desires as well, and all within budget. Heidi was a true partner in our project before, during, and – amazingly – long after the construction process. She addressed questions and concerns quickly and always made herself available to visit the job-site if necessary. When I look around our space today, I can honestly say that it couldn’t be any more perfect. Heidi’s keen sense of space, her creativity in achieving a client’s desires within budget and her overall dedication make her an indispensable asset to any project.

Heidi has an eye for functional design and an ability to create energy-efficient plans that are well-suited for living and beautiful to see.

Ms Schweizer is a consummate professional who is also extremely talented and creative. Her capacity to "think outside the box" and use the resources of traditionalism combined with modern concepts results in a truly unique and beautiful outcome. She also has an unusual understanding of the engineering side of design so one can feel secure that her product is a workable plan that has realistic expectations. I highly recommend her!
