We worked with Grasstains on a massive project for our backyard. They installed several steel retaining walls, over 70 steel stairs, steel fencing and gates, leveled the backyard, installed turf grass, a massive irrigation system, added lighting, a fire pit and plantings. The backyard and access to our backyard have been completely transformed to a gorgeous and useful space for family and friends. The team took on a very difficult design and executed it beautifully. The team was professional, neat, hard working, kind, responsive and patient. I will highly recommend Grasstains for any and all landscaping projects.

We enjoyed our experience with Grasstains Landscaping. We embarked on a complex project involving steel walls, excavation, and plantings on a steep slope, and GrassStains tackled it with unparalleled expertise and dedication. From the outset, their team showcased a level of craftsmanship that left us in awe. The installation of the steel walls was executed with precision, reflecting their commitment to quality workmanship. The challenging excavation work was carried out meticulously, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Plantings on the steep slope were handled with care and finesse, transforming what seemed like a daunting task into a work of art. Their enthusiasm for their work were evident, resulting in a landscape that met our expectations. We had a great experience working wit Grasstains on our backyard renovation. Our project manager Caleb was very communicative and helpful throughout all phases of our project, including planning/ pricing, and the on-site crew was top notch professional and very friendly. The job was completed ahead of schedule schedule and exactly within our budget and we are very happy clients! Would gladly recommend Grasstains to anyone looking for a backyard reno/ landscaping project and we will definitely use them again on future projects!

Matt Holt/Grasstains LLC landscaped our back yard in our new home. The builder did a half-assed attempt at landscaping. We met Matt at the Home & Garden Show on Friday. We met with Matt on the following Monday. By Wednesday, we had a design plan which showed that Matt paid attention to our wants and desires. We signed a contract and withing 3 1/2 weeks the project was completed. Matt is professional and his crew was the same. The crew was on time daily and worked until daylight was gone. The plan turned out perfect and met all of our criteria perfectly. We will have Matt do any future landscaping project we have. We are 100% satisfied.

We hired Grass Stains to rehab the backyard of the home we moved into about a year ago. The previous owners had mostly given up and left much of the shady space covered with bark chips, which meant it mostly felt like a soggy, unusable space. In no time at all Grasstains had built an incredible deck right as you walk out the back door, a patio space lower down that brings us out into the yard more, and a set of terraced levels around the larger more established trees. All along their project manager worked closely with us to find the right materials and were always mindful of how any decisions would affect the final budget. They worked quickly, had really skilled workers for each step of the process and left us with a backyard that we love. 5 out of 5 stars, would highly recommend.

Matt and his crew at Grasstains were the best! Very professional, thoughtful, courteous, and true artisans. He incorporated my trellis drawings into the finished product. He gave us a year warranty on all the plantings and did actually have to replace a few plants that did not survive the winter. I would not hesitate to use his design skill and would definitely recommend Grasstains for design/build/planting

Matt and his crew did great work for us. We had a somewhat complicated project and there were some bumps with the subcontractors, but throughout the process Grasstains was in communication with us and in the end we are very happy with the work they did. We especially want to thank Justin for picking up the project and making sure we got what we needed, as well as the guys who did the brickwork. We're getting nothing but compliments on the new patio and brick walkway. We would recommend them for any landscaping project you might be looking at.

Grasstains are professionals. They listened to my yard needs and delivered. It was the middle of the winter and it was a wet and mucky job. However the end result was a very professional looking front yard with no more drainage issues. They made sure my sprinkler system and outdoor lighting was still intact and working when they were all done. They cleaned up and left the area spotless. I will work with them again.

Our vision was a lawn-free back yard filled with native plants, and small hardscaped purposeful areas that were private, and surrounded by greenery. A planted burm, maybe a rain garden aspect. It was very difficult to find any landscaper in the Portland area even interested in this project. Grasstains, on the other hand, were excited about it! As soon as I said native plants, Lucas started scribbling ideas of plant species down to use. The end result was exactly what I was hoping for. They had the same vision of what my yard could be as I did. It's beautiful!

If there were more stars Matt and his incredible crew would get them all! Grassstains designed and built everything to turn my yard into a complete paradise complete with a new art studio and a patio for my hot tub.They laid pavers and beautiful flagstone for my patio and walkways, they built new fencing and gates that were falling down and replicated the exact style I liked. Every one of Matt's craftsmen took great pride in their work.I was so impressed with how skilled they were and that combined with having great attitudes made it a pleasure for me to have them here. That's a rarity these days. Matt's attention to every detail, and I mean every detail, enabled the work to move quickly without any mistakes! I absolutely love everything they did and now every part of my yard is used and looks just beautiful. The whole process was a great experience.Thanks so much Matt! You are the best!
