Welcome to Grain of Thought, where the natural beauty of wood is celebrated in an array of forms and influences. Grain of Thought is: A time honored tradition using materials which can't be improved upon to create enduring pieces. When designing a piece, I feel that if I put the wood first and honor it the best way that I know, then the end result may be something as timeless as the materials in which were used to make it. I enjoy the collaborative process with clients, designers, and other professionals. Each piece is unique and tells a story. Knowing that families will celebrate special occasions and have family meals at my tables, spend time together in their living rooms with my coffee tables and media centers, or write special letters on my desks brings me great joy. Knowing that my furniture will be passed down to the next generation fills me with pride that I’ve created something timeless.

Johnny's level of woodworking skills in addition to his wealth of knowledge about the various wood species are a few reasons he is the person to hire for one of a kind luxury pieces. Johnny was fabulous with our exterior French Door project. They turned out beautifully and Johnny's work was impeccable. I highly recommend him for architectural woodworking projects. He also a lot of fun to work with.

We had previously contracted with John Geraghty to design and fabricate two dining room tables for us. The first one, a 9' long table of Bubinga with live edges, is a show stopper (2009). We loved it so much we had him make a cherry table for our Cape Cod house in 2012. Most recently, in addition to a 54" round walnut breakfast table and 8' long maple dining room table, we had Johnny build this highly figured walnut A/C cabinet and shelves. Perfect. We highly recommend Johnny for any custom furniture/architectural millwork needs.

As an interior designer, I worked with Johnny and one of my clients. Creating the right piece for a space is an art; it is not inexpensive and can take significantly longer than ordering something ready-made. Johnny produced three lovely custom furniture pieces for specific spaces; Johnny's knowledge of different wood options, finishes and details including hinges, pulls and more showcased his creativity. The client is very pleased at the result!

We spent 3 years searching the internet for a dining room table. We stumbled across Johnny's table and instantly knew it was what we were looking for; it was made from a solid piece (800 pounds) of gorgeous bubinga wood, resting on two curved, custom-cast glass legs, and finished perfectly to show off the grain. We met Johnny at his factory to view the table, and it was there we realized he is an artist whose medium is wood. In the 10 years since we purchased the dining room table and his cantilevered chairs, we have bought many more of his creations. Though they are very different in purpose (from a pear wood hallway table to a wenge bed and dressers) all of them are beautifully designed, meticulously crafted from beautiful wood, and completely original.
