Founder's Choice cabinets + countertops

This company is very difficult to work with and you shouldn't use them if you are a private party. As they cannot think creatively, you need to be a professional yourself or hire a pro as your representative. We thought they were a custom cabinet company, but they're not. They have a stock design they want to use. And while they will not tell you this, they will not make cabinets to your specifications. but try to insist that you do it their way. Obviously, this is not Burger King, Baby. We told them what we wanted and they said they needed to come out and measure themselves to make sure they have all the dimensions. When their guy came to measure, we discussed what we wanted, and he suggested building the unit smaller and use fillers to make up the difference. We discussed the pros and cons, and decided we didn't want any fillers. We wanted to slide in a unit, like we had before, and he said ok. But when the drawing came back, he had disregarded our requirements and we had to try to fix the issues over the phone. As I'm not a professional, I missed that one exposed side edge was 1/2 inch and the other was only 1/4 inch (wouldn't you think they should have been the same?). Instead of intuitively leaving more room between the drawers and the walls, for the aesthetic purposes alone at least, they made it as though it was going to have fillers and then blamed it on me when the drawer wouldn't clear the door trim. Their response was three-fold, 1) "The guy that measures isn't an engineer, he just a measurer," 2) "There wasn't any trim on the door when we measured, so how did we know you were going to put the door jamb back on," and 3) "You signed off on it." So, rather than change their schematic, they give you a product they know won't work, just to prove a point and then they blame it on you. They would not work with us by re tooling the face of the drawers nor did they drill holes for the hardware we ordered, which was mentioned as having been done in reviews on their website. Don't trust that they'll do a custom job, or use any common sense.

I'm actually really bummed about not being able to write a better review. After 2-3yrs of research, saving money, reading over every article and review I could find, and getting 5 estimates, I picked Founders Choice. Local company, reasonable price, decent reviews and pleasant employees. I ordered shaker cabinets in a paint color by Sherwin Williams "Network Gray", (FCs suggestion) because the gray Founders choice had wasn't quite right. Cabinets came on time, we had a legit cabinet installer in the family install them...looked great. BUT they started chipping within the first week. I let it go for awhile but it just got progressively worse. Finally I emailed Founders Choice. They came out, suggested first that I use the little touch up bottle of paint, but then just took all the lower cabinets off and back to the shop to repaint (uppers were a different paint color and not nearly as bad). They were pretty quick in returning the cabinets and reinstalling them. However, less than a week later, the chipping starts up again. I email again, asking if I can paint a varnish or something over the cabinets to stop the chipping from continuing. It took a few phone calls, and repeat emails to get a response, which was..." it does appear that the doors and paint finish that you have are suffering some other damage that is not due to our finishing practices, but possibly some rough handling or external damaging forces that might be causing the chipping" I'm so baffled by that. The only thing happening in my kitchen, is cooking for my family. We've only had the second set 2-3 months. If these cabinets cant stand up to regular family use, maybe they should not use them for homes. I cant imagine what they will look like in a year or so. It's honestly really frustrating. Bottom line is, If you use Founder's Choice, stick to wood stains or maybe their in shop paint if you're brave and not SW paint. I know I would use someone else, sadly. Like I said, the people are mostly very nice. They just won't help me anymore. and now I'm stuck with cabinets that cost over $10k and are chipping all over.

These guys are great! As a contractor, I love dealing with their staff, their cabinets are high end at a fair price and they have a perfect show room. I highly recommend using these cabinets!

Founders Choice has been my preference for obtaining kitchen and bath cabinets for my clients for many years. I really enjoy working with Erin, one of the designers. She really knows how to put together a beautiful kitchen with all the bells and whistles. Their cabinets are excellent quality and their finishing shop is top notch. Customer service is always the best.

Service was excellent, they were one time and I am so happy I did not go to a big box store like Home Chepo or Blows! Theresa Phelan was great!

I bought cabinets and countertops (with sinks and faucets included) which were supposed to be delivered in six weeks but took 3 months. They got the cabinet order wrong, forgetting one base cabinet, and later ordered the wrong faucets - so that the job took much longer and cost me more than originally agreed. Moreover, the quality of craftsmanship was poor. Quartz countertop was cut improperly so that the overhang is not straight but at an angle with a variance from 1 1/3 to 1 3/4 inches, quite noticeable. Paint on cabinets shows drip marks. Some cabinets came without slow closing hinges (which were paid for) and getting the right ones took a few weeks.

I stopped in to see about a kitchen remodel. Erin was very helpful in explaining their services. She made an appt to come and give us an estimate. She was very thorough and did not make me feel overwhelmed by the process. Their prices seemed very reasonable for the quality of cabinets and the services they provide. I have not had the work done yet but she has kept in touch with me, without being annoying.

Founder's Choice installed granite countertops and a new sink for me. The quality of work was excellent. The sink one ordered did not come in on time due to shipping issue. (Not their fault). We had to substitute a sink of lower quality to get the work done. Only issue with Founder's Choice was poor communication regarding the problem.

Kitchen remodel, was told seven to ten days for countertops and waited two and a half weeks 14 days and was not happy at all.

Theresa was a big help hand a pleasure to work with when it came to my design and offering insight throughout the process. I would definitely use her on my next project.

Absolutely wonderful service start to finish! Prices were very competitive and everyone I met was attentive and willing to help. Extra kudos to Teresa!

Material and fabrication were provided "on time" with excellent workmanship! I will definitely hire Founder's Choice Cabinets + Countertops again for any future projects!
